Simple Nepali Phrases
Hoping someone on this forum can help, please.
I come into regular contact with a couple of Nepali ladies, whose husbands are serving Ghurkas. They like to practise their English, and I'm happy to help them with that.
However, I'd really like to learn some simple phrases, such as 'Hello', 'Goodbye', 'Please' and 'Thank you'.
If anyone here can oblige (spelling not a problem, but pronunciation would be appreciated), I'd be grateful and feel I'm adding my little bit to international relations.
ThanksAnd this you can see is the bolt. The purpose of this
Is to open the breech, as you see. We can slide it
Rapidly backwards and forwards: we call this
Easing the spring. And rapidly backwards and forwards
The early bees are assaulting and fumbling the flowers:
They call it easing the Spring.
They call it easing the Spring: it is perfectly easy
If you have any strength in your thumb: like the bolt,
And the breech, and the cocking-piece, and the point of balance,
Which in our case we have not got; and the almond-blossom
Silent in all of the gardens and the bees going backwards and forwards,
For today we have naming of parts.

Re: Simple Nepali Phrases
G-R, if you search back through this forum, you'll see somewhere a similar query to yours.
I recall some useful stuff, including links and the like.
I see you've moved!
Regards,

Re: Simple Nepali Phrases
Lonely planet publish a very good little phrase book, if you are interested.
Nepalis rarely ever say "thank you" - it's Danyebadh, but if you go round saying that all the time, they think it's rather odd. In their culture, it's automatically assumed you are grateful for something done. That's the kind of wonderful people they are.
