Mr_Fingerz 5 Regt do this now with 1 Bty in Herrick at all times. And 16 have 2 Btys tasked 1 with Herrick and 1 with the Falklands.

Morning, I am ex 40regt from a long time ago, Munster and Malaya, 129Bty and 137Bty.
The disbandment of the regiment is alarming news, I have only recently heard about it, the other news which I have read on here is about them posted "long term" to "NI", that must be so depressing for all involved. What did they do to deserve that ?

Well done for re-entering our 'atmosphere'. Hopefully that rude Cabana will be along to apologise later...

Do the Lowland Gunners still have pipes? And who were the Highland Gunners? Do they still exist? And wht to do about 40 Regt's rather fine Tug of War team?

Was admined by them in the mid '90s.

19 Regt used to be the Highland Gunners, I'm not sure if that's still the case though. When I was in 26 were the Sussex Gunners after all!

Yep, 19 are the Highland Gunners!
The harder the fighting and the longer the war, the more the infantry and in fact all the arms, lean on the Gunners - Field Marshal Montgomery.

Well i am a SNCO in 40 and will try and answer some of the q's.

    1. Big Cheerio party getting planned for Edinburgh on weeekend of 21 st June 2012, 137 Bty will also get medals parade for The Herrick tour they are now on with 26 Regt.
    2. TAC groups will move to other units and keep Bty names alive, except 49(HQ) which will go into suspended animation.
    3. pipes and drums will move to 19 regt who will become the Scottish Gunners.
    4. All expensive stuff from messes will also go to 19 Regt.
    5. 90% of the guys are over the moon about getting posted back to the UK, select few trying to stay as the have local birds or are actually Irish.
The thing is that as soon as we left Topcliffe we fucking knew we were fucked, the G4 move to mainland for exercises was harder than deploying to Afghan FFS.WHO THOUGH THAT MOVE UP NEEDS SHOOTING.

the purpose built camp here is wait for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! going to be left empty for 3 years, lol unbelievable.

As a SNCO i don't like to moan but its shite here and the restrictions and OOB areas make it murder here, literally, lol

All PPP's are in and movement of soldiers will start moving after XMAS leave, TAC groups leave before XMAS.

I had heard that we were to get one of your gun btys, I take it that this is not now true?

We (Signals) thought the same thing - there's nowhere in NI that you can conduct military training (outside of fairly limited facilities at Magiligan/Ballykinler etc) so why on earth move half a Bde over there? We're losing a Sqn at the same time as your Regt goes (19x Sig Sqn) and no-one can really understand why on earth we spent the time and money to move them from Catterick to Thiepval to close them down a couple of years later. Absolutely barking!
