Looking for all serving and ex-members of the Royal Tank Regiment.
As we are now down to two service regiments, with the possibility that this is almost certainly to change in the not too far distanr future, this site anf Forum is to help those who want to find and keep in touch with fellow 'tankies'. By posting details of RTR Association meetings etc it is hoped that we could spread the word that even if the army decide they don't need us any more there will be those who still have some loyalty and happy memories to the regiment until the last one leaves for the Green Fields. Fear Naught!

I don't know how many serving and ex-serving soldiers from the RTR take the "Tank" magasine but, if so, you will know now that RHQ have decided to reduce the number of issues yet again, this time to two per year, yet keep subscriptions at £14. This means that this very glossy production which is largely devoted to the activities of the 1st and 2nd will now cost £7 per issue. Can this possibly make this one of the most expensive (if not exclusive) publications? To aggravate the situation even more the editorial team have now suggested that articles from subscribers etc will only be accepted for consideration as long as they are 'short and succinct'. Could it be that they are, in some coded message, telling us that they do not want to be bothered about those in the regiment who no longer have a serving unit? Bearing in mind that it is highly unlikely that we shall retain two armoured (tank) units for much longer what, then, will happen to the magasine. One issue a year still costing £14? When one looks at the size of the present publication and the number of high quality glossy photos it is hardly surprising that the publication has been losing money so why? The big question is has the magasine become too expensive or is it because most of it will have no interest for soldiers and ex-soldiers outside the realm of either the 1st or 2nd RTR and have stopped subscribing?

The RTR Magazine, as an overseas subscriber costs me 20 pounds. However, I am also a member of QDG association, I pay 15 a year and get the annual journal, hard copy, plus association newsletters by email.

If Tank mag is going to reduce to 2 a year it is still goodish value, but in all likelyhood it will reduce in time to one jounal a year like most other regiments with perhaps email newletters.

Sad fact of the times. Good idea to have RTR group hope more join.
