Storage.conduit.com - Malware that nothing can detect.........

I've recently discovered (by accident) that every time I launch Firefox it goes to two different pages on a site called storage.conduit.com. It doesn't actually show these but they appear in the history. It seems to go to them before it opens the browser window, then opens my home page as normal. I can't stop it doing this.

I have Microsoft Security Essentials running, it has detected nothing as far as I know. I have updated to the latest version of Malwarebytes and that too detects nothing.

Blocking http:// storage . conduit . com on my router seems to have no effect.

Searching on the internet reveals very little except that most people reckon it's a trojan or some flavour of malware. It might account for my crap broadband speed and slow laptop if it is up to something mind.

Here are the URLS of two pages it has gone to. I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING TO THEM! I've broken the links up to stop them appearing as hyperlinks.

    Help. Please.

Try this: Emsisoft Free Emergency Kit

Run it from a USB memory stick.

If your soldiers aren't coming off most weekends telling those who weren't there "shit mate, you dipped out" then time to cull your training team with prejudice.

He already has, read his post.

Plus I have found better results with Emsisoft.

OK, downloading it now. Do I need to boot from the memory stick or just run it? Does it matter if there is anything else on the memory stick?

    Thanks.

Just run it, doesn't matter if there is anything else on the stick. Create a folder for the extracted files on the stick and double click on a2emergencykit.exe

You could also try the Eusing Free Registry Cleaner. I had a similar issue a few years ago and between Eusing and Spybot I got it sorted.

Are you sure it is malware? Is it not a function of the arrse toolbar?

    Hi all,

    this is not a malware
i've installed the toolbar on my computer, and noticed that there are 2 html components
I opened the 2 links you provided:

    http: / / storage. conduit . com/43/21/CT216943/BrowserFiles/1_New.htm
    http: / / storage. conduit . com/43/21/CT216943/BrowserFiles/3b7f8e6b-483c-4ecf-b5c6-35210c46dea7.html

and noticed that these are the two HTML cpmponents from the toolbar !

when you installed the toolbar - you haven't installed the HTML components as well.
Conduit simply makes sure that you will always have the most updated html component (which appears on the toolbar)
Malwarebytes & Microsoft Security Essentials didn't detect this as malware because this is not malware....

Ah well, finally got to the bottom of this as seen above. However, in the process of waiting for the penny to drop the Emisoft Emergency Kit detected a trojan on my laptop that the other packages hadn't so a happy outcome all round.

Many thanks for advice from you all and in particular to MSR for his guidance on this. Hols4Heroes donation sent in lieu of beer as discussed.

There ought to be a link to the Hols4heroes paypal account on the computing (support) pages to make it a bit more direct for people to do this.

    Thanks once again.
