Half the features new to Windows 7 were promised in vista. It's definately nothing groundbreaking but it actually works without crashing and taking up all your ram and processing cycles. I haves copy and it's probably worth a purchase. I prefer macs myself though.

Cheers muchly indeed for the link, MSR, but I'm fücked if I understand what's to do on that site. Apparently, once I install it, it'll keep going on the blink every two hours after a certain date unless I fork out for a pukka version. I'm not sure if I can handle that with my rudimentary IT abilities.

I'm still trying to figure out how I can download Ubuntu to the sectioned-off bit of my hard-disk (sorry about the technical terms. :D).

The big problem with Ubuntu is that the default GUI is GNOME. Frankly, it's different to Windows for no better reason that it can be (Wooo let's stick it to the man, I've got a t-shirt with a penguin on it etc).

So don't bother, try the KDE flavour of Ubuntu instead. Kubuntu
I found it a lot easier to move to from XP than GNOME and am still happily using it.

Of course if you want to play modern games on your machine then Win7 is the only game in town if you're buying a PC these days. That said, I reckon it's still worth setting up a dual boot machine and doing everything else in Linux.

Or a Mac, if you're a trendy young thing with lots of money. Or my wife. Neither of which is me.

    Or VMWare ;)
I can see it now, in a decade ARRSE will be full of young thrusters who will be complaining about all the old farts who go on about HERRICK, lurk in the office, "enable" stuff and how it's got fuck all to do with what's going on now.

    Sun VirtualBox: http://www.sun.com/software/products/virtualbox/get.jsp

    1. Free.
    2. No more sucking at the M$ teat.

The last version of Windows I paid for was 3.0. Every version since then has been treated as a bug-fix free upgrade. Still waiting for proper release version...

The current download can be used until mid 2010, after which time it will restart every 2 hours.
