Firefox 3 and Windows Vista compatability

It would appear that some people are having big problems when trying to use Firefox 3 when they have Vista installed, some however don`t, I unfortunately belong to the first group. No bother thought I, just install Firefox 2. All went well until recently, now I get constant reminders that Firefox 2 is allegedly no longer safe and not supported. What to do?

What issues do you have? Have you reported them to Mozilla?

Initially the browser opened for a few seconds and then closed, later it would not open at all. On looking through web for solutions the best one (that is the easiest) was simply to download FF 2. Apparently Mozilla is aware of the problem.

I run Vista and FF3 on occasions and have no problems. What is the extra variable that is giving you problems?

And edited to add - I second the swap to Chrome as well. V good.

    Crazy!

What version of Vista are you running mate? I'm just checking mine now to see if I'm on FF2 or FF3 as I don't use it much but when I have I've been lucky and it's worked!

Right. I'm running ver 3.0.5 on Vista Ultimate x64

is suggesting that Google's new Chrome is so good that 'Firefox may already be dead' or so the leadline screams. Well, a headline like that is good for a few squillion hits. Of course, whether it's accurate or not is highly debatable. The author has two basic argument to support his cause that Chrome is better - 1) it's faster and 2) there's enough rumbling on the web in some quarters that Firefox is not longer the open-source darling. Really? What do you think about it? If speed is all you're after then Chrome may well be take the crown - but is that the only thing that matters when you're using a web browser?

This is an exciting time for Web browsers. Google Chrome is now available in alpha for Linux, and I downloaded it for Ubuntu. Despite the fact that I was running it on my rather underpowered Dell Mini 9, it started in the blink of an eye. Additionally, any JavaScript-heavy sites like Gmail or Google Docs were so responsive that it's almost unbelievable. Does that sound familiar? That's right. It's just like how Firefox used to be.

Run Chrome and Firefox side-by-side, and Firefox is embarrassingly slow. It's not even in the same league. It's an old man on the running track trying to compete against a sprightly 20-year-old.

Version 3.5 of Firefox should rectify that.
