Thread: Casino Royale, a Darker Less Cheesy Bond?

Never did eagerly await a Bond film. This however looks like quite a departure from the cheese and tonque in cheek aspects of previous Bonds. I may become a fan. Trailers in the link.

When I say 'darker' I don't mean that he's from a minority! He actually looks quite the goosestepper.

Will have to go some to beat the original with David Niven...................

My mrs is not a fan either, although upon viewing the trailer, she merely mumbled yes please and ran off to the bedroom and shut the door behind her...
Strange really she didnt watch the whole trailer, just the bit when he is wondeirng around in swimming trunks...

They ruined it when M became a chick and Miss Moneypenny was no longer madly in love with Bond.

The original book is a very dark and brutal thing with Bond as a moderately competent although somewhat damaged character who is subjected to and accepting of extreme violence.

If you read the book you will come away with no love of the character. The James Bond of the books is a hard drinking man, a world war 2 naval officer with little care for others and certainly not the dinner suited brothel creeper as portrayed in the films.

The character is hard as a woodpecker's lips.

Well am sort-of looking forward to this one mainly because of the reports that it has got away from the poncey 'martini, shaken, never stirred' and the corny and oh-so obvious one liner humour.... that old formula was, frankly, getting rather staid and dull.

With a darker atmosphere and more characterisation - less gadgets and FX's - should be decent flick.

It's probably just me but I can't stand Bond films.

Mind you, if they cast Joe Pasquale in the lead role...

I have to say I too am looking forwards to the new Bond, Brosnan's last outing with the invisible car and what not got my goat. And they broke the style of the opening credits, which, to my mind, was stupid decision.

Looking forward to the new bond film, after seeing the trailers they do seem to have gone towards the original Bond character rather than the gadgets and humour approach. I think Daniel Craig will play the part well, his past performances have been varied and quite dark at times, a bit of a link here where he kicks off at the PC approach of the movie bosses.

Funny things, Bond movies. They can have some really great, though totally fantastical sequences in them (the intro to Die Another Day were the MI5 agents surf into enemy territory comes to mind, and all of Moonraker), and really good looking girls running about in bikinis shooting stuff, but watching a whole two hours of Bond is pretty unappealing. When I was a kid there was always a Bond movie on Christmas Day.

Read a review of Casino Royale online and apparently it's about Bond pre - MI5 where he's trying to get his '00' status and is a totally ruthless, cold blooded mo' fo' with little regard for human life and a cool line in Boss suits. It's not Moonraker, though :(

I'm looking forward to watching Daniel Craig as Bond, he just looks handy.

Invisible car my arrse, what we need is some strapping six footer banging out bad guys with cold eyes and a nice suit.

Oh yes and an Aston Martin (non invisible)

And a Walther PPK

We get the Aston, not sure about the shooter.

Best Bond film to date is From Russia with Love, minimal gadgets, bad guy betrayed by his poor ettiquette (red wine with fish!!) and lots of brutality. Oh yes, and Rosa Kleb!

Hopefully this new film is more in that vein, though I doubt if we will see Rosa again! Boo hoo!
