Re: Worst 3 war films
Anyone seen "American Soldiers: A Day In Iraq"...?
Absolute fecking twaddle, but an (unintentional) laugh a minute. A bit like Team America with real actors. Thinking about it, the puppets were less wooden."Take off all your clothes, my dear, and put them down there. Next to mine..."

Oh, and the other two on the list are Pearl Harbour and U571. Probably.

Re: Worst 3 war films
1. Appocalypse Now - It wouldn't be as bad if so many people didn't believe it was a historically accurate account. I had an argument someone in which I explained to someone why Black Hawk Down and Band of Brothers were superior, because the filmmakers did their research and talked to veterans. His response was "of course they (the makers of appocalypse now) didn't try to get input from veterans, it's an anti-war movie"
2. The Patriot - Bad war film. Great comedy.
3. Thin Red Line - The mass surrender and subsequent slaughter of Japanese troops was laughable. Too many people forget the brutality of the Japanese."They have started throwing those pencils, but they are not pencils, they are booby traps to kill the children" - al-Sahhaf, Iraqi Information Minister

Re: Worst 3 war films
If you want to see what The Thin Red Line was intended to be, see the 1964 version (if you can find it), or better still. read the novel by James Jones. Jones served with the 25th inf on Guadalcanal during the battle, and his real experiences were the basis of the book.

I'll look into it

Re: Worst 3 war films
1) And I quote, "Pearl Harbor sucks, and ben affleck is gay!"
2) Gallipoli - a really dodgy set of circumstances which are terribly anti-pom (The final charge was actually ordered by an Aussie officer)
3) Jarhead - Jake Gyllenhaal needs some testicles before he tried a role like that.

Re: Worst 3 war films
I actually felt Braveheart was a pretty good movie. Historically crap but viewed as fantasy it was well filmed and some good action.
Remember seeing a statue of William Wallace as the wealthy armoured knight he was rather than an impoverished, kilted, highlander but Holleywood has committted worse travesties. Of course shagging the future Queen was a little hard to believe when she had not left France until after Wallace died.

Re: Worst 3 war films
Probably the worst: Sahara (with James Belushi). Admittedly, I base this opinion on catching about 3 minutes of it on HBO (comprising 1 minute opinion forming, 1 minute confirmation, 1 minute thinking “WTF am I doing watching this drivel?”).
Probably the most boring: The Great Raid. Wasted 2 hours and $1-50 (on a pirated copy – you can’t buy a legal one here, thankfully) watching Joseph Fiennes moping about in a Japanese POW camp, then dying of something-or-other before he gets rescued.
Most memorable scene:
Lt Col Gus Chuckmeister III (or somesuch): “I don’t want no damned atheists on this raid!”
PFC Tilbake: “Guess I’ll sit this one out then.”
3rd worst and beyond: Anything with Mel Gibson in it…… shortarrsed tw@t.
