I suffered it when Mrs Danjou insisted , Hattie Jacques was lucky to get any man ,fat munter, he should have kicked her out but he was too nice.

Hattie was what is known as ample.
"As we moved slowly through the outskirts of the town we passed row after row of little grey slum houses running at right angles to the embankment. At the back of one of the houses a young woman was kneeling on the stones, poking a stick up the leaden waste-pipe which ran from the sink inside and which I suppose was blocked. I had time to see everything about her - her sacking apron, her clumsy clogs, her arms reddened by the cold. She looked up as the train passed, and I was almost near enough to catch her eye." Damn! Can't get BBC iPlayer here in the antipodes. Would've liked to hear. As well as Dad's Army, he did a ad over here I think it was B&H cigarettes in the early 70's.

I second all that has been said above. A very nice, warm man. Kind, a true gentleman and the greatest role ever as Sgt. Wilson.
How bloody clever do you get when you decide to cast an officer as a Sergeant and a WO as an officer to such great effect as in Dad's Army?
For more info on the man, I can very strongly recommend: "Do you think that's wise? ", by Graham McCann.

He had a great sense of humour and the ridiculous. Apparently he won an award for "Traitor" and the caption ran John Le Mesurier, Traitor. Do they make them like that anymore, I wonder?
