Feeling a bit guilty about leading you on OFAH so here's a trip down memory lane for you.

They started out as a works choir from the Vernons Pools Company in Liverpool but eventually ended up as a trio.

Their version of Lover Please is better than the original Clyde McPhatter version. It was released as a double A Side with the jokey You Know What I Mean which is probably why it didn't do better than #16 in 1962.

Wot no "Mr Tambourine Man" by The Byrds?

Shame they turned it into a three-minute wonder cos I'd love to have heard them do the whole thing.

Can't see the link at work, but I assume it's The Vernon Girls? I rather liked them, and if I am right, the mighty Joe Brown married one of them.

However, on the subject of Clyde McPhatter, 'Smoke gets in your eyes' has never been bettered. Almost a draw by both Sinatra and Ella, but not quite the ticket.

Some covers turn out to be better, or at least, more succesful than the original. Viz a young Elvis Presley with his version of 'Blue Suede Shoes' originally written and recorded by Carl Perkins.
