I'm looking forward to watching them. Are they any good?

watched a film last night called "Fracture" with Anthony hopkins and Ryan Gosling. it's a mystery / courtroom drama. (not a spoiler, it's on the back of the box) - Hopkins shoots his wife in cold blood, is arrested with gun in hand and confesses verbally and in writing.

Gosling is the hotshot from the DA's department who has to convict him. seems like a slam dunk case - but hopkins is a bit of a sneaky bastard.

my missus figured out the key at about the one hour mark, which impressed the hell out of me actually!

anyway, hopkins is a really amusing character. it's a serious film, but he does make you laugh in places (and not just at his irish accent). it's clever, gets you thinking, and has some good twists.

had never heard of it before, but i'd recommend it for a night in with the missus.
More twisty than a twisty thing if I recall.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up,

As true today as in 1320.

Just watched Valkyrie. Apart from Cruise being too American, I thought it wasn't that bad apart from the story being sexed up a bit ... Cruise was rarely annoying as well.

Years ago it was suggested that an apple a day kept the doctor away. But since all the doctors are now Muslim, I've found that a bacon sandwich works best.

I hate all this terrorist business. I used to love the days when you could look at an unattended bag on a train or bus and think to yourself; I’m having that.

    Go for Broke

Most of the squad served in Italy and France. They were known as the Purple Heart Btn due to receiving 9486 Purple Heart medals. Ther imitation of Texans is spot on :D
Well, the prodigal brother. When did you get back? Ain't seen you since the surrender. Come to think of it, I didn't see you at the surrender.

I don't believe in surrenders. Nope, I've still got my saber, Reverend. Didn't beat it into no plowshare, neither

Paschendaele - saw it advertised in Caneda earlier this year, and finally got a copy.

There aren't that many WW1 films out there, and this one actually shows a lot of the nastiness.

Love story woven in, but recommended for the action bits, and for showing an element of the war that you wouldn't normally come across, the empire troops.

Stunning film, the idea that Winslet's character was 'innocent' due to her 'limitation' (won't spoil it for those not seen) is worth a conflab over a glass of chablis. To add: See Revolutionary Road as Winslet is equally enjoyable
Now its interesting you say that I had one hand on "The Reader" and the other reached for "Revolutionary Road" until I saw the tub of Haagan Das ice cream. Guess which won! I'll go back for it next week. Yes, her character was simply portrayed as "innocent" and "naive" and the storyline worked well. Fiennes character was more interesting to me and the reason he didn't go into the prison when he was a law student - like to hear your take on that?
Fiennes’ character was teutonic, an intellectual, if not a bit blank or self-indulgent; given that I wonder if he saw no real value in Hanna, or, could he afford any association with her camp record? But, he recorded for her furiously! What was his motivation for such commitment? Guilt? She certainly had no love for the 15 y-o Fiennes but the words she learnt coloured her in, so to speak. Fascinating.
"As we moved slowly through the outskirts of the town we passed row after row of little grey slum houses running at right angles to the embankment. At the back of one of the houses a young woman was kneeling on the stones, poking a stick up the leaden waste-pipe which ran from the sink inside and which I suppose was blocked. I had time to see everything about her - her sacking apron, her clumsy clogs, her arms reddened by the cold. She looked up as the train passed, and I was almost near enough to catch her eye."

Just watched the German film, Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run), with Franka Potenta (1st Bourne film). Seen it a few times before, but still enjoyable.
The harder the fighting and the longer the war, the more the infantry and in fact all the arms, lean on the Gunners - Field Marshal Montgomery.
