Re: What film have you just watched?
Saving Private Ryan - again.
Erin Dawes endured it....her only comment being " oh my GOD!" when the Unit sniper whacks his opposite number through the scope.
( there are so many military history buffs out there, I dare not put my hand on my heart and say this was a bit far-fetched!)" Without sound Defence, you don't have Schools, hospitals or roads...what you have is a pile of ash...."

Re: What film have you just watched?
Watched "the Hangover" yesterday.
Absolutely superb, had me laughing the whole way through. Very well played characters and a decent (obviously very flippant, as a comedy should be) storyline.
Just make sure you don't turn off or leave before the credits finish, the explanatory "photo section" that is overlaid on the end credits is brilliant.

Yesterday I rewatched Walter Hill's 'Southern Comfort', even though it was made, I think in 1980, it still stands the test of time. Classic!
Reminds me of Brecon, attacked by Cajun locals in Brecon Town and then the fucking sheep at Dixies Corner :D

I've been on a kick looking at Japanese movies staring ToshirÅ Mifune, most were very good! I also watched 'Battleground' an old movie about the 101st Airborne at Bastogne.

Re: What film have you just watched?
50 Dead Men Walking: I was a bit disappointed as there was very little tension or suspense running throughout the whole film. Think I will have to read the book to get a better feel.
It's nice to know that every Squaddie that served over there will always be portrayed as a thick barsteward tho'!

Based on Carlos Hathcock USMC Sniper in Vietnam who killed a sniper this way

Hathcock and John Roland Burke, his spotter, were stalking the enemy sniper in the jungle near Hill 55, the firebase Hathcock was operating from.
The sniper had already killed several Marines and was believed to have been sent specifically to kill Hathcock.
When Hathcock saw a flash of light (light reflecting off the enemy sniper's scope) in the bushes, he fired at it, shooting through the scope and killing the sniper.
Surveying the situation, Hathcock concluded that the only feasible way he could have put the bullet straight down the enemy's scope and through his eye would have been if both snipers were zeroing in on each other at the same time and Hathcock fired first, which gave him only a few seconds to act.
Given the flight time of rounds at long ranges, both snipers could easily have killed one another.
The enemy rifle was recovered and the incident is documented by a photograph. We should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.

Re: What film have you just watched?
Had to watch Predator again the other night. Dry shaving in the jungle, ridiculous minigun and some of the best use of camouflage (by the homo sapiens) aside, one hell of a great film. I think the 80s absurdity even adds to it's appeal!
One hundred idiots make idiotic plans and carry them out. All but one justly fail. The hundredth idiot, whose plan succeeded through pure luck, is immediately convinced he's a genius.
