Means to decrease falling over at work?

I'm currently skiving off work at the express insistence of the company doctor for the rather specious reason that my legs have developed a habit of collapsing under me at inopportune moments. Some days, I'm fine, other days I have difficulty walking more than a few yards or have to go up stairs on my hands and knees. The legs will just give way irrespective of how I feel at any given moment, but it does seem to happen more when I'm turning after just having stood up.

My neck can also play up making it difficult to drive (can't keep hands on wheel for long) or, occasionally, pick up cups of coffee single-handedly.

I had been using a single stick at work, not necessarily because I needed it (although there are a few days when I do), but to give something to stop me falling; the stick isn't always successful and can make it worse by jarring my neck and shoulders.

Currently awaiting neurosurgeon appointment.

I would like to return to work, but work are leery about me returning without something being done about it or the cause determined and mitigation effected. In the mean time (or long time, as may be the case) I was wondering what options might be available to reduce the chances of falling over and lessen the impact when I do (I'm not sure my knees are awfully fond of the process). My wife, bless her socks, has suggested that I use a wheelchair or zimmer frame but I'd feel like a complete fraud using a chair (my step father was paraplegic) and I'm not sure my pride would let me use a walking frame whilst I've still got my own teeth.

Are there any "Manly" options that would help me avoid feeling like a total prat (not that I think those who do use them are prats, but they're proper disabled whereas I can walk several hundred yards on good days). Does anybody make SLR-shaped walking sticks or quarter-staffs that turn into light-sabres?

i'm running twice a wk, usually one short (10-11km) and one long (18-20km) each wk after a long term injury meant i couldnt run regularly for about 3 years once you add up all the injury, surgery and recovery time.

i'm not particularly quick but i would like to start trying to improve my speed with this years goal being to work towards comfortably completing a half marathon in sept and then building to a marathon next year. what i'm asking is would it be worth me joining a running club or am i better working through a training program on my own? having never been in one or know anyone that is i dont know if its training as much as just a big squad of you who go for a run. at the moment i wouldnt want to run more than 3 times a wk.

How fast do you run?

Bit of an expansive question this but it's aimed more at the more experienced runners on here such as Brotherton Lad et al. Not wishing to sound like a dick but I'm not asking for everyone's current 1.5 BFT time and plan on how to lower it before ADSC. There's another thread for that...

The reason I ask is I've always been a bit unsure about what is generally regarded as the correct pace to be working at on a regular basis. Time was where everything I did was absolutely flat out and I never ran further than 6 miles (recovery runs being an alien concept) and then I switched that over for distance and hill work when I started competing more seriously in fell runs, ultras and mountain marathons.

Nowadays I tend to do very few runs over 12 miles (running 4-5 days a week) with sprint sessions in there as well but nowadays I'm at the point where if I don't finish absolutely hanging then I feel like I've not worked hard enough.

So, the question I put to you all is... should all runs be done at the pace that leaves you absolutely ruined at the end or not? Common sense says no but the masochistic part of my brain says yes and the masochistic part of the brain is generally the bit that gets you fitter in my experience.

Anyhoo, answers on a postcard and all that...

Specifically, wide arm pull ups and the old assisted lift machine.

T'gym caught me using the assisted lift machine to complete my pull ups while working out the other day.

'No no no', Cried the behemoth, 'That is not the way. If you want to do 30 pull ups, do them in sets of as many as you can... 30 sets of ONE if you have to. That machine is shit!

Lo and behold, after only a week, my initial best effort has gone up by 3 pull ups. The behemoth was right.

Now, my lats are a bit puny, so wide arm pull ups are altogether more difficult for me. To the point where it would be difficult for me to use the same strategy - at least initially.

So, my options are basically to keep on with lat pull downs, lat raises with the dumbells or the 'shit' machine assisted excercise.

Any tips?

Just opened this thread to ask does anyone (not guesswork) know what they are testing for ?

We had a brief by Regty 2 I/C to say that some supplements, one being http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0037R7X8..._df_B0037R7X8U are banned on CDT, yet they are being sold in Pri shops around the British Isles, and that the only safe Supplements are on the Home | Informed-Sport website, although why ? if you don't do a sporting event does this matter ?

http://www.army.mod.uk/documents/gen..._the_facts.pdf

https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...43294/Ch21.pdf

I have looked around the Intranet and www and cannot find what they are actually testing for, as there is no information and with this ever changing reduction of manpower, who easy it would be to add to the list.

Grenade=CDT fail

So from a fatboy looking at different supplements, sold legally in UK/PX/BATUS where can I find definitive answers.
