Hi

I am trying to find an ex colleague of my husband so that I can invite him to a surprise 60th birthday party next month.

I am looking at a picture of 55 (The Residency) Field Battery Royal Artillery which was taken at Alanbrooke Barracks in 1984.
The person I am looking at is on the front row and shown as WOII Newton MW. I believe he is Mick or Mike.

I think my husband last saw him about 20 years ago in Manchester

Can anyone help with information? RAA have no contact details for him.

Thanks

This morning I finished reading the account (autobiographical) of Airey Neave's war time service, particularly his escape from Colditz and "Home Run" to the UK - They Have Their Exits.

I had never heard of Neave before my time at ICSC(L) and didn't hear of him on the course, rather as a local sports field was named after him. I did a bit of Google/Wiki searching and was astonished that such a distinguished Gunner had passed under my radar - yes, he was assassinated when I was 2 years old, but I would have thought to have heard of him, at least.

DSO, OBE, MC, Lawyer, Politician, requested to assist at the Nuremburg Trials, MI9...quite a list of achievements.

The more I read and in accounts of him, perhaps that I had not heard of him was not unusual. I can recommend the book and intend on reading his other works, of his time with MI9, aiding other escapees and assisting the resistance and to also read his autobiography.

I was disgusted that a man who fought for the freedom of others, in wartime service and after in politics and law, someone who had secured his own, by no small measure, was killed by cowards. As I finished the book, I was raging that such an injustice could happen. Also saddened that one who seems to have been so influential is not around now - who knows how British politics and events may have played out.

Starting basic on the 2nd of June for RA ofcourse and just looking for a little information regarding 26 Regiment's location, I know they're based in Gutersloh barracks in Germany at the moment. Will they be moving to a new location in the UK or disbanding into other regiments? As I know all HM forces based in Germany are moving back by 2020. Just looking for some information as this will be one of my regiment choices after 7 Para RHA.

Cheers.

Genuine and sincere request to speak to someone from 4 RA or a contact number for anyone whom could help.
My wife passed away four weeks ago in very sudden and tragic circumstances at the age of 42. Her late father ( whom fathered my wife very late in life) served with 4 RA and I have all of his medals and lots of provinence such as his call up papers in '39 where he joined at Bulford and his transfer to reserve papers in 45 or 46 and badges etc. I think there is an 8th army badge along with Africa and Italy stars included.
I think it might be fitting to lend them to the Regiment until such time any of our three young children might want them.
Again, this is genuine and sincere and would appreciate any help in finding an appropriate 'home' for them.

the title of this thread will clearly open a mass of comedy abuse but it's time to pull up the soap box and rant!

Regular adjutant fails 2 x PFT or whatever they are called now, and what do the gunners do? berate him and put him on a 3 month bender like the rest of he soldiers would be (obviously with a detailed remedial PT programme); how stupid of me to think so. surely it would be fairer to promote the poor soul to an acting major and give him a Battery to command. Having failed a PFT prior to leave you would have thought the self conscious and diligent officer would train some of his fat ass off to regain some credibility and allow a modicum of understanding for the slave to his desk; however on return from leave the Gym buster played a blinder stating CO's PT would be a steady state run. Great bluff! once all were assembled in the gym the programme had changed to a PFA. The last man in (behind a soldier has tried to discharge for failing PFT's) was the adjutant, with a time that a girl wouldnt pass with.

am I wrong to be offended by this preferrential treatment of a chief cake eater? lead from the front??

Evening all, im looking at a possible transfer over to 7 this year, depending on whether my wife can get a civil service transfer to work in Colchester.
Just a couple of questions for anyone currently in the regiment or have left recently.
How long after P Company would you wait before doing the jumps course? I know that any airborne unit wont take anyone serious who doesnt have their wings.
And the other thing was, i was told by someone in 7 that if you transfer in, you wont automatically get into an FST, and would have to wait a while. Ive been on the FSTs for 8 years and am a level 4 and also have recently passed the FAC course ( but not yet CQ'd) so if id have to go and work in a CP or even worse, on a gun... It seems like s bit of a waste of time as i have no quals in these trades less for level 1 sigs. So id be doing a gunners job as a full screw.
Any advice would be appreciated. I did do herrick 13 with 7 but didnt ask too many questions as at the time i wasnt planning on transferring.
