A 'friend' of mine (ok it's me) has recently been offered a Civil Service post. In many respects it's my dream job (no really) and something I've wanted to do for years. Predictably though the pay isn't great although obviously my military pension will help.

I'd always thought that previous military service could be used to justify starting further up the pay scale for a given CS grade but the 'boarder' I'm dealing with has explained that this stopped in 2010. I'd be grateful if anyone with knowledge of the system could confirm whether this is an absolute position or whether exceptions have been made? If the latter, any supporting evidence would be extremely useful.

I need to discuss an expat salary package with a company that completely lacks any HR expertise or knowledge of the job location.

I am aware that HR departments in major companies use certain third party salaries databases or surveys in order to estimate the market rate for new positions. I recall the data is listed by job title, number of reports, location, etc.

Is there a specific market-leading database that is in common use, free or by subscription, or perhaps a specialist company that will cost up a position for a fee?

The positions I am trying to value are in Russia and Kazakhstan, but a general international database would probably serve.

Thx for any leads.

Canada is short of most trades especially class 1 drivers, mechanics, fitters, welders, sparkies and timber harvesters.

I am currently in Newfoundland which is a truly beautiful place and setting up a pellet plant operation there.
I personally need about 40 class 1 drivers who can drive B train logging trucks in the bush, as well as heavy mech fitters to look after the kit.

I also need plant operators for the pellet plant and sawmill, as well as harvesters to work with the harvesting companies.

There is an oil and construction boom in Newfoundland, so short of people for the rigs and to build the plants, especially good welders, fitters and industrial sparkies.

School places are down 17% so they are desperate for families, and you will have no problem getting work permits and eventually resident status. My company can sponsor those who will work for us

I have a very nice lady friend who assists everyone with relocation and settlement form getting you NI numbers to cell phones.

Anyone interested please get in contact.

I am not an agent, and I am not an immigration consultant, just a guy who is setting up over there and who is short of good people with the right skills, so I am not after your money for 'fees' or whatever.

Haven't been around ARRSE for quite some time bar keeping an eye on the top posts each month. But today I have read quite a lot regarding agencies being useless. Cant talk for all of them, but only for ours. I am a Regional Director for FRS and I want to start posting our roles on ARRSE. We currently have over 20 offices and place hundreds of ex-military each year, into all different kinds of roles.

In the meantime, I can maybe help you with any questions you have regarding leaving the army, or issues you have had since leaving. If I cant answer them, I should know someone who can. Almost all of the company are ex-military, who have all been through the same or similiar process in terms of leaving and trying to find a job.

Anyway, I will start to post our roles in here and also invite any questions you have. So please PM me or visit our website at FRS - Helping ex Forces & ex military personnel into jobs

Im looking for advice on civilian jobs, im an ex royal engineer, looking at returning to the Uk from a Security Risk Management job in Afghanistan.

Has any one else struggled to find a suitable, decently paid, and interesting job once leaving the forces or similar jobs as mine.

there seems to be bugger all about in terms of middle management within the security industry thats not contracted only.

im looking for a second career, not temporary, or contract work, is this to much to ask in todays climate?

Any advice on your own experiences would be welcome, if i am unsuccesful in finding a suitable job then my next step will be to visit the recruitment office!!!
