I know that there are some very erudite members on here that may well be able to help. Following on from my last post on 'W.Campbell HLI Painting' it appears that he may well be diffy of a gong; the India Service Medal

Having looked at the web, I can't see any 'qualifying days' criteria, so before I approach the Medal Office, does anyone have any gen?

Service record:

Malta 9/2/95 - 14/2/98
India 15/2/98 - 14/2/99
Ceylon 15/2/99 - 17/2/99

The above just covers this period of service.

Records show that the HLI, 74th were in the Punjab; he was 74th. The period of campaign for the medal is up to the April of 1898, hence asking re number of days.

Any help very much appreciated

Does anyone know if you were casevac’d from IRAQ in 2005 short off 1 day qualification are you still entitled to the medal? The unit at the time said rod off but, I heard of one lass how broke her leg on Day 1 of her tour and she got it supposedly. Or is better to raise it through Soldier Magazine because the current Unit never gave a proper reason for not being allowed it?

I have lost the ring that holds my medal to the ribbon.... Does anyone know where you can get these from? I'd rather not purchase a replica tbh as paying in excess of £30 is a bit steep for what I want!

Thanks,

After a bit of advice. I'm having a sort out at home and came across these medals which I recall buying from some dealer at an antique fair. Only really bought them as they were sat there all lonesome and were named to an RE. They are GV MSM and VR (???) LS&GC and, although bearing the same name, not sure if they are for the same person? I'm not a collector so have little knowlege or interest in medals so want to get rid (hopefully for a price!)

MSM named SJT. W.THOMSON. R.E.
LS&GC named 9595. SERG. W. THOMSON R.E. (The number is a little worn, might be 9555???)

Have tried researching them but to no avail, and not being a collector don't want to start signing up to websites that I will have no future interest in. Anyone able to get any background on these or give a valuation either as a pair or separately, would be appreciated.

Just announced that a medal for those who served in WW2 north of the Arctic Circle will be awarded. Now, my Dad was 17 on the very day that war broke out and serving as a merchant seaman. He did his bit on the convoys and will be 91 this year. I can't imagine many survivors will still be around to receive this. Possibly the same with the Battle of Britain clasp.
