Trade plating is covered by tacho legislation and working time directive, same as any other driving.

The exception to this is when a truck hasn't yet been given plates. (I forget the term) This is because the tacho hasn't yet been calibrated and is not yet presentable as evidence in court.

You're still required to adhere to driving times, but not required to prove it.

Tradeplating is shit anyway. Keep away from it.

Agreed, Mate and it's a pretty involved Course, not for the inexperienced.

That is not quite right, the use of Trade Plates on LGV's has nothing to do with Tacho's
being Calibrated, a new vehicle as to be put through a PDI Inspection on Delivery to
the Company before acceptance, the Tacho will be calibrated before Delivery but the
Company do not put the Company Card into the Head until this Initial Inspection is
passed, if you think logically about this, once a Vehicle as been delivered, Taxed and
PDI'd the Owners will want it on the road soonest and not want to book it into the
nearest Calibration Centre, what you should do is when running on Trade Plates with
a new Vehicle is on arrival at your dest. you SHOULD go into Vehicle Printout and
do a Printout, do a Manual Entry on the back of the Printout, sign and retain it.
No body bothers to do this, I've never heard of anyone getting stuffed by VOSA
for not doing this. I hope this clears this up?

Upshot of it all is - driving is for losers.... keep away from it at all costs.

The only way to top £300 a week takehome pay is to work like a nigger...

    And that's not cricket.

This thread has shown that the level of professionalism, understanding and responsibility required to make 6-8 £ph is just fcking ridiculous.

    Find another trade.

I do agree with most of that, except for "Driving is for Losers" some people will
struggle to get a job, other than Humping an Artic, at least give them credit for not
sitting at home and living off the rest of us.
It's easy to say "Find another Trade" but for most Drivers that isn't a viable proposition.

I came off the road years ago when the Company sent me down the Training Route
and to be honest, it was the best thing that could have happened, I see what the
Guys have to put up with now, it is ludicrous and to be honest, it can only get worse.

You are quite correct in stating that it's shame that Drivers have to work like the
proverbial to earn a living wage but with the Govt. strangling this Industry with
forever rising Fuel Prices and garbage like the LEZ, the only way Wages will rise
significantly is if ALL these price hikes are passed onto the Customer, never happen!

The only really high Salaried Driving Posts left are Fuel Drivers and believe me, now
that Fuel Transport is being handed over to Individual Companies, even though the
Drivers are TUPE'd over, the end of these Monster Salaries is in sight, expect a loud
outcry from the Unions......in this day and age, they won't win.

    Forgive me.

I didn't mean to imply that drivers are losers....

Rather, driving is not up to much.... no Ferrari there.... pick another trade.
