What any god has to do with war (except Mars of course) I don't know. We were always told by our Padres that 'God was on our side' but IIRC the SS belt buckle read 'Gott ist mit uns'.
It did indeed, Pongo.
There are a hundred and one trite answers to your question, and each of them has been peddled by one religious body or another over the centuries. The ultimate obscenity is perhaps the concept of a "Just War" (thanks a bunch, Augustine the Hippo et al!)
IMHO the problem lies not with faith (in a god of whatever description) but with RELIGION.
No. 2 son has a wonderful T-shirt with the words "Religion kills" on it. Great sermon material!

Amen to that, brother. But I suspect that we'll both be offering up our thoughts (and perhaps some of us our prayers) on Sunday in Remembrance of those, and especially our comrades in arms, whom we have loved and lost.
Surely the whole point of remembrance is that we are thanking and thinking about the people that died. I hate the religiosity of the event but wish to demonstrate my gratitude and appreciation. I would like any act of remembrance to separate the religious and secular bits.
I wish to be part of the remembrance but not the religious bit.
As a militant agnostic I think it is useful if we retain the religious element for two reasons a) many of those who died were themselves religious b) it is probably the best opportunity all year to force all the different faiths and sects to turn up and do something together. It's a little step but every journey starts with a first step of some sort.
You mean every faith (and non believers) have to listen to a load of bollocks about Jesus? Like every vigil in Bastion?

That was for the boxhead army, the SS was "Meine Ehre heisst Treue"
