Havin spent the past 8 years of my life sorting downlighters for auld wifeys id recomend 230 v 35 w lamps forget about the transformers as long as there outwith zone 3 in a bathroom transformers love to die on you as they wish i have six in my kitchen which havent been change for about three years there still running strong

Not quite true, you can DIY it but you must first go through your local Building control. They will then arrange for it to be inspected and tested.

buy 20 of the lights, and spread them across the building. Then you won't need a transformer, just wire them in series :D
(yes this does mean when you turn one on, they will all turn on)
but you could just put all 20 in the bathroom... good for checking out how long the turd was.
my friend is going to ask you some questions. personally, I hope you don't answer them because I want you to die in here and end up inside a pork pie!
