Discuss Millies on sky1 at the Current Affairs, News and Analysis forum within the The Army Rumour Service website; What a load of patronising embarrasing shite. Just imagine:

i suggest you all stop dripping...when nothing is done you'll be the first to complain that the public doesn't appreciate us, nobody understands us etc etc...

Slightly off topic but similar vein..... Did you notice ITN carrying the return of the fallen from Afghanistan, reporting on the public recognition given in Wooton Bassett, was very moving!
Very, very moving and I hope that the IBA office there feels justifiably ashamed of their twonk of a DG, i'd like to see how long the cnut would last if he went out on the high street with his dodgy regalia and awards on in a misplaced attempt to honour REAL servicemen, he'd not make the attempt to honour OUR dead though, it'd only be an excercise in self-publicity.
As for the Forces line in soaps, how about a very young Ross Kemp in Emmerdale Farm playing Dolly's son?
The Millies, ok, good attempt, but better on BBC , yeah, and how about looking a bit deeper into it eh?
Te most important thing was our forces personnel being recognized, although it wasn't done to our taste it was aired Nationally and maybe it wasn't menat to be aimed at our tastes but to "touch the hearts of Jo Public"........
I thought the most touching moments were where the majority of the award winners were going "I accept this on behalf of my team mates or those that didn't make it back etc..... typical military selflessness)
there were a few moments where I was laughing my tits off and others where I had a tear in my eye...... The format definitely confused me and the Cheeze was cringeiworthy at times!

Great shout DD, we all go on about recognition and support for the Armed Forces, this WAS done well last night (in my opinion), if all you have to bleat about is the "format" or the channel it was shown on, you don't have an ounce of the problems some of those guys in wheelchairs have.
In fairness to sky they tried to make it an uplifting and celebratory affair, mixing dark and lighter moments, but being an entertainment channel they got carried away. the choice of Tess Daly was a big mistake it needed someone with the right gravitas (like Huw Pymm) her plugging her inane dancing show was pathetic. Yes the beeb should do it as part of their rememberance weekend scheduling and the 'competition' element needs to go, they should simply highlight some of the more worthy stories and then just announce the recipient. Having different 'Celebreties' handing out the awards was also tacky, that should have been the job of the Prince of Wales. But anything that recognises the incredible work done by all the services and the sacrifices they make can never be a bad thing however cheesey and OTT it may be. Finding out that L/Cpl Ben Parkinsons only wish was to 'Stay in the Army' was very moving and worth putting up with all the showbiz nonesence for.

Well done to Sky
Hear Hear :D . It may not have hit the traditional taste of a dignified medals parade or presentation by HM, but let us take this whole ceremony in the spirit in which it was intended - to show the public the side of the military they do not hear much about. Yes it needs tweaking, but I hope this goes from strength to strength.
I found the whole thing rather tacky in that it draws a direct parallel between TV awards, Oscars and military heroism - they are not the same.
Footballer of the Year and a CGM winner have fcuk all in common - but are to many both "heroes".
Even HRH could not lift the overall presentation, most involved seemed a bit embarassed.
The content was of course beyond reproach, coupled to the fact that this is beamed into living rooms across UK can only be good in the broader context.
Rather than naff cups, why not have cash or other sorts of useful donations provided by sponsors - to be given to the cause of choice by the "winners"?
..and while I am chuntering about stuff on telly...
Is it just me or is anyone else getting annoyed by this focus on the running total of KIA numbers in every news broadcast?
Almost no context, no personal perspective, no unit/tour perspective, just totals read out like lottery numbers or a football score - you almost sense they are looking forward to a round number so they can put more expression to the statement....
When I see Forces plot lines written into Soaps, then I'll know we're making headway.
As it is, the last I can remember is Gwant trying to join TA Para. Have there been any others?
grant (eastenders) - ex para jim mcdonald (corrie) - ex irish guards
sean slater (eastenders) - ex something
ben (emmerdale) - ex reme?
peter barrlow (corrie) - ex navy
Thought he was ex RE.
think your right mate - my mistake - dont watch much corrie - will now go and beat the wife for making me look stupid!!!
