    Quote from Big_T

"The bottles of water 'crisis' in the Houses could be solved by refilled old plastic bottles in lunch boxes handed out as the public servants leave for the day. They could cycle, ride in a staggered convoy of eco friendlier bendy busses or walk to work"

Some good idea's mate but could I suggest colour coded lunchboxes for the different parties,to save on brain power for important decisions later and instead of the bendy buses how about each one getting his or her own hi vis vest and forming a nice line with a couple of plod in front and a couple behind for security and walking to work

i am sure in the "" security "" senses they will be against it because having all the politicos in one place would be a security risk. its all pish and tish, they have a cushy number because the uk electorit cannot be bothered with them any more. :(

So they have milked the golden goose, lets hope they get voted out now

Destroying these sorts of records is bang out of order, you can bet your arse that all of your claims are secreted away somewhere to be dug over should the need arise.
All fnancial records have to be kept for a minimum of 6 years for tax and audit requirements.

Spot on, All financial records must be kept for tax audit purposes, Could a member of the public not report such ineptness and demand legal action be taken against the keeper of these records?

I mean if it was you or me who did not have our records squared away then our collars would be felt!

Far easier to secure a single location (block of flats or MQ patch) than dispersed flats/houses. This issue didn't stop Prescott living in plush quarters in Admiralty Arch and having another grace & favour country residence at Dorneywood complete with croquet lawn. Why not have quasi-grace & favour MQs or SLA (complete with MQ and SLA charges) in London for the lot of them?

Not really, we live in a representative democracy NOT a delegated one. MPs do not have to canvass their constituents' opinions, though they risk censure come election time...

I've read views that MPs are not paid nearly enough which is why the job attracts incompetent cretins - those with skills are off earning millions in industry.
    My bold

This is part of the problem they think they should be paid the same as top surgeons and people like that
As you say most of these incompotant cretins would struggle to run a bath never mind the country
In the old days the position of MP was unpaid they all tended to have independant wealth so they only got expenses
Both have now got out of hand but the problem is if not only you self police you also get to make and change the rules to suit yourself it will never stop
I would suggest £30k for a back bencher rising as you get further up with the PM being the top paid man
Likewise no tax paid houses or mortgages those in positions of power get grace and favour flats
If you choose to take a job in London why should I pay for a second home plus the renovations and furnishings that he MP then gets to keep or sell for a profit

It's not just in goverment that this is happening
York council announced wage cuts for a number of staff
York councilers voted themselves an 11% pay rise
Also voted through up £7000 per year baby sitting allowance

Local Counciller £35 k plus expences not bad if you can get it

I wonder who they wil vote for in the election?
We should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.

Easily countered by pointing out to them that the Palace of Westminster has "all the politicos in one place" already - usually with airport protestors on the roof

    Next!

If they're really keen on being "dispersed" for "security" reasons, why not "rusticate" them outside London, like civil servants under the Lyons report (2/3 of CS's are already outside the southeast). You could make a mint selling off Westminster.

If the Central MP Pads got blown up and every MP got killed the country will keep on working as Civil servants run it all. Plus the added threat might get them working harder to stop the threat or spend more time in their constituents.

Well exactly, look at Belgium, if you must :D they've had a hung parliament and negotiations have been ongoing for 9 months and the country has kept going. They only formed a government last week I think.
