It's totally disingenuous, and downright dishonest, of the []present Govt to give the impression that it's some sort of "initiative" on their part[/] - typical New Liarbore.

Nothing remotely antisemitic in Cameron pointing this out, and the offer of some funding by the Govt is neither here nor there: funding has been requested, and denied, for years, and a cynic might observe that it's only on the table now because they're desperately casting around for anything to cast themselves in a favourable light. Tossers!
Please, tell me just how the government did this.

Overkill has a good point, dont take these snivelling little oiks abroad, give some holocaust survivors a slap up meal and let them talk to the kids. In little groups a round robin around the tables... not lecture them but talk to them...

I have been to Oswiecim as it is properly called in Poland and it almost had me in tears.... why... becuase I have an imagination... I can imagine what It was like... the yoof of the British Soviet under our great and glorious leader Gordon Vissarionovich Jugashvili-Brown, dont have the imagination, when I was there a bunch of schoolkids came into Birkenau just after us... they acted like ... well like they were on a schooltrip to the zoo... but more bored and no animals.

Cameron is a twot but he is not anti-semitic.... political suicide if he had an ounce of anti-semitism in him... our great and glorious leader is using these trips as a political gimmick.

And if he is going to use this as a political gimmick why doesnt he organise trips to the sites of the Gulags of Siberia as well? a balanced gimmick so to speak.
we came, we saw, we binned it!!

Maby he pretended to be an anti-sematist to get the muslim vote(they cant get enough of jew bashing can they).. seeing as they make up an alarmingly large portion of this countries voters.

So it would be logical to expect that Boris calls Lord Levi as a concentration camp guard.

The media has focused so much attention on school visits to Auschwitz that I had difficulty finding the full list of Government 'gimmicks' mentioned by Cameron. Eventually I went to the Conservative Party's own website (link). This abbreviated version is also available:

    1. Community kitty for every neighbourhood
    2. Funding for flooding
    3. Honours for sportsmen
    4. Trips to Auschwitz
    5. New Border Police
    6. Reversing 24-hour drinking policy
    7. Police to confiscate alcohol from teens
    8. Titan prisons
    9. Prison ships
    10. Engaging the public in policy making
    11. 1,300 new train carriages
    12. Protecting Public Spaces against terrorist attacks
    13. British jobs for British workers
    14. Deep Cleaning of hospitals
    15. NHS constitution
    16. Screening tests: cervical cancer
    17. Screening tests: C.difficile
    18. 1,000 troops home before Christmas
    19. Deportation of foreign nationals
    20. Inheritance Tax
    21. Tenants forced to work
    22. Five hours of culture a week
    23. Netball to be introduced for the 2012 Olympics
    24. Migrant Charges
    25. Knife Scanners
    26. Petition plans.
Cameron's point was that these are all sound bite initiatives or 'gimmicks' because they are misleading, impractical, ineffectual, unfunded or just short-term palliatives to deal with deeper-rooted problems. I'm sure we can all come up with our own examples. My starters for ten are:

    27. Proper resources and funding for the Armed Forces (despite drastic reduction in percentage of GDP spent on Defence and the recent findings of coroners).
    28. Best medical treatment and aftercare for the Armed Forces (despite problems at Selly Oak, impending closure of the last remaining military hospital and having to rely on charities for proper treatment facilities).

A guilt ridden trip to the death camps is mandatory for Boxhead schoolies but I'm not really seeing the educational value of dragging a herd of happy slapping Essex youf over to giggle at the Arbeit macht frei sign.

Surely there are genocide tourism opportunities closer to home?

How about The Great Famine Commemoration Exhibition in Skibbereen. They have a Famine Trail you know. Unfortunately there's no Spudulike near to hand.
That's the most foul, cruel, and bad-tempered rodent you ever set eyes on!

The deepers story is that Cameron attacked it because the pledge was just that - a gimmick. The plans don't apply to Wales or Scotland and they're not fully funded, so schools have to find money themselves for it. The plan is for the tories to continue the trips AND fully fund them.

What plans are they then Jim? The plans to give a trust a bit of money and then encourage schools to use the resource. Did He mention it as a government initiative, or did He say that schools should take up the offer?

On a Hot morning in cyprus I found the meaning of anger. Fortunataly I was comftably numb.
The RSM and various other NCO's seemed very agitated.
maybe they should look into counselling?
