There have been many comments on this issue, some practical, some emotive, all fully justified. This country needs to wake up NOW. Teenagers are getting hold of guns and this spells disaster not only for their victims but for themselves. In Ulster 70s period the same thing happened, back then it was supposedly a religous conflict but actually it was nothing of the kind. It was for the most part an organised bunch of thugs testing and selecting murderers treating as cannon fodder any who got caught either in possession or in use of weapons. Many people were killed by these teenage gunmen,a totally tragic waste of life but there were additional consequences.
Some of those caught in possession or use were given relatively lenient sentences, borstal training for example. A few (very few) went on to have successful crime free lives afterwards. Most returned to crime and went on to serve prison sentences etc.
For many who went on to graduate to murder, if not caught in the investigation they now have surely been released by the good friday agreement. Middle aged men who now have to face the enormity of their actions, depression and suicide follow.
If harnessing these people and getting them to lead lecture groups for those who would be vulnerable to falling in with the "gun culture" saves 1 life then maybe it is an idea worth pursuing.
The argument that these teenage gunmen are in some way dissaffected by cause is bollox. Look at the examples above. The pathetic hug a hoodie idea will only demnstrate the inadequacy of understanding of the real problem. NO RECOGNISABLE DETERRENT. Still I'm sure it keeps some liberalist comittee in a job.
If anyone on this forum wants to pick up on this please PM me, I have many examples of this sadly one in the last year. Life is cheap when you are a teenage boy, if not cheap then at least you are indestructable. The "manly" crime of murder as so described by the Turkish kapidye mafioso can only add to the most important attribute that of "street cred" with consequnces far beyond the victim. Like I said in the opening paragraph we need to wake up NOW.

You see! This is why birds and CID don't mix.
You give a bloke a gun and he thinks its a dream come true
You give a girl one and she knows it doesn't go with a dress.
Right then, this could go on for a while because this is a subject I have thought long and hard about when I look at what this "Great" country has become.
The subject of gun crime was talkd about on the radio earlier and some reporter said that there were parts of big cities now where you could buy a gun for £50 or even just rent one out. Take note Stelios, bright orange EasyGat will not work.
It has got to a stage well past stupidity here, I hate to say it but this is something that the Septics may have got right. As like a previous writer I too have people I know in Florida (my fiance and two kids). Over there they have a simple system known as 10-20-Life.
Basically it means:
If you commit a crime in possesion of a firearm you get an automatic 10 year sentence.
If you fire a weapon whilst commiting a cime you get an automatic 20 year sentence.
If you wound or kill a person with a firearm whilst commiting a crime you get automatic life.
All of these are on top of the sentence you recieve for the original crime and you will serve the full sentence.
I may have got a few of the details wrong but the gist of it is as I have written, it may not completely work but I bet it does make most people pause before they do something stupid.
Also the treatment of prisoners has to change, it's OK all the ex cons saying that it's the internment that is the real punishment but it obviously isn't. If it was then the little sh!ts would do everything they could to stay away, maybe even get a proper job. Since leaving the forces I've been driving wagons and a few years ago I had to do a drop at a building site and the builders were all p!ssed off. They told me that they were building a halfway house for kiddyfiddlers. It was just a few streets away from a school but what made it even worse was that they were being told to fit each room out with TVs and DVD players and a huge plasma TV for the common room with Sky.
I don't agree with the death penalty for all of the reasons stated by others, ie if you fcuk up and get the wrong bloke it's really hard to let them off. But giving luxuries to criminals? WTF! I read a while back an article about child crime in the inner cities, they talked to one girl and she said that she hoped to get caught when she nicked stuff from the shops, at least if she gets nicked she gets her own room and they give her pocket money and take her on holidays to help build up her confidence. How can prison be a punishment if people think it's better than they have at home.
As for the pathetic little fines that are given out for so many offences, what is the real point of that? It just means that the little sh!ts add the cost of the potential fines to whatever they're nicking. If they thought they would spend a few weeks in Borstal they would maybe think again.
When I had to buy a car a couple of years ago I went to a nice big used-wreck-a-rama and the sales guy told me that they would have had a lot more cars for sale but they had had 7 of them stolen the weekend before. They had images of all of the little gits on CCTV but when they got the Police to come round they were told that although the Police knew every single one of them by name there was no point in taking it any further. All of them were aged between 10 and 17. They would go to their houses to arrest them, their parents who in most cases had sent them out to nick the cars in the first place would argue that they were innocent, the social workers would be brought in to waffle on about the rights of the kids and then the police would be faced with a claim of harrassment from the parents that they are picking on their little angels. So the Police understandably in a way just told them to write the cars off as a loss, they would give them a crime number and they can get the insurance. Nothing would happen to the kids at all and then they would go on to bigger and better crimes because they are not afraid of being caught.
All in all criminals should have an element of fear where the Police are concerned and the ordinary people should have the confidence that the people paid to protect them are able to do it to the best of their abilities and not chasing target figures or paperwork.
And most important of all.....................
Someone sort out that tw@ Pete Docerty
Sorry if anyone has lost the will to live before reaching the end, it's just that the state of our glorious country is something that I like most people on this forum feel very passionately about and I get carried away.
We had "prayers" this morning. "NFTR" as the old saying goes but the main subject of conversation was that little twat "Docherty". It got me thinking that if he gets banged up (fat fukin' chance of that!), you, me and the postman has to pay for him through our taxes. If he's kept out of nick, even encouraged to OD, then there's no cost to Joe Public! Bargain!
