MOD have been lying about casualty figures for a long time, from their early, and very blatant 'no records are kept' porky through only counting listed patients, to later attempts to hide the true numbers. For example, a couple of weeks ago MoD told a journalist I know that there were 12 military patients in Selly Oak on a particular day; that was true, but across the various Birmingham hospitals that make up RCDM there were actually no fewer than 56 patients that day.

this is a worrying thing, are service personal being shunted between hospitals because of clinical care reasons or is it that there isnt enough ward space or is it because then the MOD can claim that that they dont control or record casualty figures.

one would hope it is clincal care reasons but excuse me if i am not totaly sold on that as an answer.

It would be interesting to see this tested in court. I'd wager a hefty sum that the armed forces are excluded from the benefits of HRA, as NHS patients are.

I should hope they are. I would hate to think that information about security and operational plans could be legally discussed on an open forunm. It's not only Daily mail journalists that are scanning the site and purtting all the bits of info together to make up the big picture. I fail to see what all the griping is about, it's always been the case that before passing on info you needed to get permission. Can we wait until there is something to get indignant about before we get indignant.

RCDM has always used various hospital sites around Birmingham, it's part of the deal (healthcare by the lowest bidder) that MOD did with the NHS. Selly Oak is where the RCDM HQ is, but mil patients are treated in several different hospitals, and mil staff work on the other sites too.

You can see that whilst this makes reasonable clinical sense if all the specialist treatment isn't available on one site - despite MOD's spin about one site providing everything - it makes it very difficult for the military to administer the patients - 4 welfare officers and aeromed covering all the sites 24/7, mil admin trying to get round everyone to sort out pay and so on.
