Terrible, Terrible news. I felt sick when I heard the first reports on the news this morning. My prayers and thoughts to his family and friends. The Police today have a thankless job, and don't get the respect from society that they deserve.

Once the policeman is dead the gunman knows suicide is his main option.....an armed policeman would have spared him the choice of being a suicidal murderer

No police officer should have to die while carrying out his or her duty.

RIP and condolences to family and friends

    RIP

A dreadful - perhaps avoidable - tragedy, to judge from all available news info.

I have unlimited admiration for those who police the UK in the current climate. No other nation's police could do it better, or even come close.

But this incident is certainly not a good argument for the routine arming of police in GB.

Couldn't agree more, hope there is no 'knee jerk' reaction over this terrible incident.
