Re: Captured Personnel to be allowed to sell their stories.
Surely their CO should be having a quiet word in the ears of the non-commissioned matelots and "advising" them the correct course of action. And i hope the the officers know better, if not then it is a dark day for Dartmouth for letting that sort slip through the net.

Fred Astaire ate my hamper!
If they should once obtain a connivance, they will press for a toleration, from thence to an equality, from an equality to a superiority, from a superiority to an extirpation of all contrary religions. John Pym 1584-1643.
I reserve the right to say what the fcuk I like. The serried ranks of headstones in Flanders, Normandy and elsewhere give me that right.

Was this much of a fuss kicked up when Private Beharry VC effectively sold his story when he wrote his book? Is the problem any member of the Forces having a first-hand account published for money, or specifically these personnel?

Re: Captured Personnel to be allowed to sell their stories.
Its got to be yet another agenda by the Govt, sort of cheap proganda hit on Iran.....
As already mentioned from whats been in the press lately the next lot taken, will be in much more danger and have an even harder time.
The writng was really on the wall for eventual release once they started with the TV interviews and making statemeants about being over the line the next lot however my well be the wrong locstat
and sadly I'm sure there will be unless the Govt get the ROE, Kit and Numbers on the ground/sea sorted to be able to do this sort of job and minimise the risk
Squaddies.... Lions led by political donkeys.

Leading Seaman Turney, who was paraded on Iranian television during her captivity, is understood to have agreed a lucrative deal with ITV's Tonight with Trevor McDonald for a special programme to be broadcast tomorrow evening.
It is thought the deal will also involve an interview with a tabloid newspaper. A source at the MoD said it involved a "life-changing sum".
...It is understood that she was offered more than £100,000 to describe exclusively her experiences of the hostage crisis and the deal with ITV and the newspaper, believed to be The Sun, is thought to be worth a substantial amount.
That's inflation for you... used to be forty pieces of silver.

A good way for some of these folks to exit naval service.

This just beggars belief. They've been back less than 48hrs and they're already signing books at Waterstones and appearing on Trisha!

Leading Seaman Turney on the couch with Trevor McDonald. Not a pleasant thought. It could be the thin end of the wedge.
Perhaps other celebrities could be persuaded to go over Iran side to be shown the sights and be pioneers for a whole new PR 'solution'. The Beckhams could visit to inspect and bring onstream the new nuclear facilities and do a deal with Hello! magazine for the photos.
Max Clifford could expand his operation to downtown Tehran, and we could have Wayne and Colleen inspecting the Revolutionary Guard, or Jordan and Peter Andre doing a house swap for the day with Ahmedinejad and his wives, then getting down and dirty in the palace bedrooms.
Perhaps Tony and Cherie could visit for a luxury summer break, and enjoy the delights of Ayotollah Khamenis holiday villa - which would make a pleasant change from the other self-righteous religious nut, Cliff Richard.
