Oh and here's a vote winner.

Winter daylight saving. Put it in your manifesto.
It has already been approved but for the fact that the Scots porridge was all frozen in the 1970s but most have got central heatring now so its ok. Or something. We could have an extra hour of gloomy sunlight in the evening and therefore no more chavs. I think.

Seriously tho - do that and also resurrect St George's Day.

I hope that your election literature does not just mention the fact that you served but has a picture of you in uniform. It's about time we stopped being ashamed of ourselves and reminded the voters that they can only vote due to the sacrifice of those who now wear or once wore the sovereign's uniform.

And I think that judicious use of medals whilst campaigning will not only mark you out and therefore give you free media attention but may also swing older voters who know what they represent.
In my day, it took more than a third class degree in macrame and basket weaving from some concrete college to become an officer... you had to have a little breeding, some style or a lot of money!

    Agreed PF.

The Midlands are for the most part , staunch supporters of the Army.

Witness any of the "Freedom of" parade turnouts in the area. We did one hereabouts and were stunned by the turnout of townsfolk and the unrestrained applause and good wishes made.

The parades in the Staffords areas are also very well received.
He had bought a large map representing the sea,
Without the least vestige of land:
And the crew were much pleased when they found it to be
A map they could all understand.

To answer the question which Battalion I was in both but will always be a "Model" I did see some hurt and I left as a Colour Sergeant.
I remember you. I was in 3 platoon ( Dave Dangerman) in Belize and can distinctly remember you ripping into someone from our platoon who had said that the '2nd Battalion couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery'. It was 84/85 on one of the cayos off Punta Gorda, where the boys from One coy had come down from Salamanca camp for their weekend jollies.
I doub't you will remeber me as I was just a faceless G-man at the time.
Do you ever get up to the reunions at Blackpool and have you found the Grenadier Forum that is run by Les Scholes? I know Loz gets up to Blackpool but I havn't seen him for years. Its mainly a 'model' affair.

By the way you are not the first ex Gobbladier to go for it

I think he was in the first battalion in the '70s and his claim to fame was that he is the only ex Enlisted soldier (Non Rupert) to have become an MP.
    Good luck Keith.
It would be good to have two ex Grens in parliament. Get a few more in and you can start 'Hanging the Brick' round Westminster. :D

Hoare was a Member of Parliament ?

Or was that in the US version ?
Apparently some moderators take themselves very, very seriously, and cannot abide posts such as:
"If however you offer to moderate you may be a sanctimonious, unfunny pissflap to your heart's content."

I do remember you Dave they were good times. I have been to Blackpool twice and had a great time. I have two of my ex Guardsman living near me in Newark (postman), both actually talk to me and I get my mail so I could not have been that bad. I did some time suckering oops! I mean recruiting in the late 80's then joined the 1st Battalion. There is a Grenadier email that goes round organised by Jim (one eye) White if you want his email address let me know.

sorry, meant "Mad Mitch" Mitchell . I think he did the MP thing.

Well, they are all mad anyway. Like that ex Guards officer who thought he could lead an opposition to beat Tony Blair while the Tories were in the Doldrums. IDS
