Re: Army Rumour Service Book of Remembrance, Other Areas

It is with great sadness that I report the death of a dear friend of mine and many others. Some who visit here, may also have met this great guy.

    Barry Robinson.

I met him for the first time in 1982, in the 8 Regt RCT WO's & Sgts Mess, Munster. He was 3 RRF on the Infantry Advisory Team attached to the Regiment, which had the responsibility for the Logistic Support of the Lance Nuclear Warheads.

We have remained in touch eversince, had many adventures and escapades, generally growing old disgracefully, the BUMS (British Uniformed Mens Society), shall miss him.

As shall all his friends and family, to whom we offer our condolences on the sad loss.

    Rest in Peace

Sorry to jump into this post so late, been away for a while - would one of the Admins please pm me ref the Op Banner site, cheers.

Also if anyone has any queries regarding the Fallen of Op Banner, please pm me. I would suggest a look at Ken Wharton's two books as they have the most accurate and up to date RoH - accurate as far as has been possible, anyway. Like everything it is on-going work.

A SOLDIER who survived a tour of duty in Afghanistan has been killed by a POTHOLE.

Captain Jonathan Allen, 29, was cycling home from his base when he swerved to avoid the 15ft-long 'crater' and collided with a lorry passing alongside him.

He suffered multiple injuries as he was crushed under the front wheels of the HGV and died at the scene on the A338 on Salisbury Plain, Wilts.

The gaping hole, a mile north of Tidworth, was filled in by Wiltshire County Council workmen on Friday — 36 hours AFTER the fatal accident.

I agree, I have been in contact with Ken as I was put in touch with him via a mate of mine. For those who don't know he has put together three books that are accounts from soldiers of their tours in Northern Ireland. The first one was 'A LONG, LONG WAR' then 'BULLETS, BOMBS AND CUPS OF TEA,' followed by his third book 'BLOODY Belfast'

He is releasing his forth book 'THE BLOODIEST OF YEARS, 1972' next year.

In the back of each book is an upto date list of the Fallen. If you know details that are not on it his contact details as there and he is very grateful for all help.

He is an ex - Green Jacket himself

As a schoolboy in the mid to late 60s, with a father serving in the army, I read in the papers about the losses in Aden.
They now lie far away in Silent valley. The gravestones can be seen here:

Today nothing surprises me, however this is hard to comprehend, it is obvious his hate is ruling not his intellect.
