MOD procurement really are a slack bunch arent they? This is rated as an "Urgent operational requirement" and yet they're not capable of rolling them out, for over a year. Its a bloody disgrace!

Ok then were can we get 70 -100 armoured vehicles at the drop of an hat.
Just cos its operational does not make it possible
And if they do get it there won’t be any bits for it.
Its not nice they can't do the Paul Daniels bit but rather a fact of life.
If you would like to drop them a line on what the next UOR will be in the next theatre ‘Answers on a post card’
Seriously
Its not an exact science and to that end will take time. Better to have a less than perfect solution than a rushed in ill thought out UOR.

I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE... TWICE
Hmm, well I could get you two dozen LAVs, from Australia and Canada, within 45 days, with the remainder to follow within six months.
Armoured vehicles are for puffs! Give me a WMIK anyday. The fact that i've got no choice in the matter has nothing to do with it! At least i don't have to worry about pressure buildup and i have a chance of being blown clear of the vehicle.
And guarentee support training and uncle tom cobbly and all.
forgot to mention we could buy them back from sales aka snatch
Actually, yes. You could have a dozen spare powerpacks, several tonnes of asstd spares, and half a dozen specialist (civvy} vehicle technicians, in theatre within thirty days.
Unfortunately, tenders for projects like this are not often invited from the private sector.

As has been said elsewhere - LAV is pretty readily available, I've seen the Canadian version and been impressed. We should have bought a Bdes worth years ago. Meanwhile that useless heap - SAXON - is for sale through the surplus chain. See www.witham-sv.com They will also sell you a 432, Sabre, BARV and an armoured mondeo - price reduced....
Next question - when did the UOR go in ? When they started to ship Snatch out ? We had them on TELIC 3 so they have had a while to find something better !
Cant speak for armoured one, but the van/hard topped variety is very stable and very very good offroad, even with a large quantity of people on board.
Traction is extremely good and the way the drive train is made gives it a sensible centre of gravity.
The version I've driven had a VW 2.4 turbo diesel with auto transmision, point it where you want to go and press the pedal and it just goes there.
Rollover stabilty is on a par with Land Rover ( I had a front wheel 2 feet in the air and still stable-ish) or at least not far behind. Given the right tyres I think it'll do the trick.
Only wanders around the road a little at 50mph too, some similar vehicles are virtually uncontrollable at that modest speed
