Trust the media to start digging for an "angle" already. Yes, the daily mail questioning whether they were too tired to fly. Won't post the link, it's undeserving. Vultures; just goes to show - the media are only interested in fuelling a blame culture that they themself have created.

Journos - do you really think the services swallow your "support" pretences?

To be fair it was a relative of a serving member making the allegation, according to the Torygraph.

The 'newspaper' was just reporting it.

BBC 6pm news reports that one of the recovered aircrew has died of his injuries.

...and that they are no longer looking for live recovery of the other two, still missing. Both crews consisted of an instructor and student - that's what 15 Sqn RAF does.

V sad day, not just for the RAF, but for all of us who serve/served.

Please! How can any allegation be made so soon after? Burpa, I have read your stuff and respect you for that but can you seriously condone this, whether it be (premature) proactive journalism or just publishing anything as and when?
I saw something similar a few years ago.... mate was killed in a well publicised bike accident. Journos turned up at his house next day with bouquets and vouchers for something (unsure). Next day's paper ran their version of whatever they gleaned from his missus in the converastion they had. Yes, she invited then in - she didn't realise she was being interviewed though. They also obtained her facebook details and used photos from there to illustrate their story.

On reflection, I agree with you.

I'd not thought about the issue of timing. Pprune posters are also pouring scorn on it. I grovel.

Yes, she was stood down from the search after senior officers 'found out' that she was the wife of the missing Squadron Leader.

FFS, how senior do you have to get before something so blindingly obvious as an identical surname and home address presents itself to you?

Sometimes, the RAF and its 'funny little ways' just beggars belief.

If she was duty SAR crew they were probably launched as soon as, no time for the niceties of admin, too late when they are on station.

She was not even on her Sqdn at the time but doing a stint at RCC Kinloss, and was stood down as soon as it was realised

that her husband was involved in the indecent, so I don't know what all the outrage is about.

It's well known that flight ops are coordinated using surnames and addresses, rather than callsigns.
