Sigh, not that long ago I lived in a nice 2 bed flat, which I owned. I worked hard for that flat and spent a lot of money updating it.
Down below, the family from hell moved in. Both in their late teens, both unemployed, both showing no willingness to go and look for work. Young brats x3? (it was hard to tell) also present.
They shouted, screamed, played brand new X box games on their mega large TV, and I could hear them having screaming matches over whether to buy COD3 or food with their benefit. They also sold drugs on the side (allegedly). They had a staffy dog called Tyson (despite them being banned in the block). The dog was 'exercised' by opening the door their first floor flat, and letting it run amok on the ground floor communal gardens, including inside other peoples flats. The dogs were encouraged to shit where they wanted, and they refused to clean up as it wasn't their fault as 'the dogs got to go to the loo innit'.
I and others reported them to the police for smoking skunk so strong that I could smell it on the other side of the building - result, no interest as the police dont do cannabis arrests in my part of
London. I reported them to social services about the fact that the parents were habitual drug users, more concerned with smoking pot than buying nappies. Again, no interest as the child wasnt directly at risk apparently. The only time the police came out was when they'd left their dog by itself for a week in the flat, and the dog sounded like it was dying. It was howling so loudly that the entire building (we have a good residents network) thought someone was in pain there. Eventually after the RSPCA refused to get involved (but did ask me for a donation!), and the Council couldnt get involved because apparently they couldnt enter abandoned flats, the police came out. They came out because I said I hadnt seen anyone for a week, there was an animal in pain, and I know they had a child there. This translated into 'Baby P' mode, and we had 2 cop cars and an ambulance outside within 10 minutes.
Eventually they were evicted for multiple breaches of their tenancy. The night before eviction, they turned on the taps, put plugs in the sink, and walked out the door, thus flooding the buildings lower floors.
So, I dont care how many bleeding heart liberals want to claim that babies will starve. Ultimately my experience, and that of people I know in social work is that those that genuinely need help will do everything possible to get help. They are a tiny minority, and the vast majority are lazy, workshy and filled with a sense of entitlement. I'm all for workhouses, forced labour and making people earn their benefits, because having lived with the hell that is the unemployed 'oooman riggghts' mob, I have no sympathy for them.
