Maybe, Supermatelot, that's because Labour's era put migrants in work and left local, naturalised workers on the dole. Because we "needed low cost workers" and alienated our own? Labour admit they got it wrong on immigration.....let over 13 million people in, pressured schools, hospitals and housing, changed the UK demographic forever, caused crises in housing, and there are an awful lot of immigrants in- and still coming to, UK. Labelled analytical people "racist" and encouraged foreign chancers to take advantage.

All the Tories have to do to win the next election by a landslide is set up a new job with the title of Deportation Minister.
You can imagine the news headlines each day;
The Deportation Minister as today announced that 1200 illegal immigrants, with most claiming a benefit, have been caught this month. Three Jumbo Jets will this week take off for countries such as Nigeria, Bangladesh and Pakistan. It mirrors last months success of 1600 illegal immigrants being sent back to their homelands. The Minister defended the cost of the flights by how much they are saving in benefits each week.
It will never happen, but get a party to do that and they are in power for a long time.

The foreigners who are the chancers are the ones who move here solely to exist on our benefits. Foreigners who apply for jobs and work are different. The other side of the argument is - if our benefits system did not encourage people to stay out of work would there be as many jobs for the immigrants who wish to work? Dwayne and his bird Chardonnay are not gonna give up their lifestyle because they are embarrassed - there's no stigma with being a doley anymore - some even pride themselves on it. Chardonnay will pump out another sprog as and when needed and Dwayne's back will be bad and he'll be registered as an official carer for his ADHD kids. The flatscreen will adorn the wall and meanwhile - the Polish bird will man the checkout when Dwayne does his weekly booze shop at ASDA.
We need to get our own shit in order before we blame immigrants. It was nearly 2 generations ago when the mines etc closed - certain communities have never recovered because they have been brought up to use that as a stock excuse.

Also, Labour relies on non european immigrant dempgraphs for several seats. The Northwest has many. Labour will never criticise Asian immigrants - or Pakistanis to be more exact.

No, the problems don't solely lie with "immigrants" . It's m uch more complicated. Bit stereotypical with the Chavs example there, though. If we're going to call the workshy to account and demonise the unemployed... let's call Labour to account too, along with illegal immigrants and workers who often receive amnesty.

Tremaine, in the city I live in, the office my missus works covers the whole region (2 counties). As far as my chav comment goes - for my region it's applicable. Also, 80% of people actually banned from the jobcentre for threats, violence or abusive phonecalls all come from the same area in my city - a chav area that prides itself on being "salt of the earth" with many ex-residents now having roadside shrines commemorating their deaths.

I know, Supermatelot, I used to live there too. And the area's rife with Chavs and substance abusers. Immigration isn't solely to blame for unemployment and benefits dependency. Wider though and avoiding cliches like "in the big picture" and such rubbish, all aspects.... demographics, benefits dependency, immigration, all have their effects and consequences. It should be possible to discuss this freely.
