When do we do the 'troops to teachers' thing then?

Don't be silly. If the threatened rail strikes had happened back in 2008/9 I would have been very tempted to try & invoice the Union for my lost wages as the only way I could get to work was by train.
Naturally they would have told me to feck off because they wouldn't have cared about a temp on one week's notice with no holiday pay, no sickness benefits & so on who earned far, far less than their members. To eat well in England one must have breakfast three times a day

It's not legal for soldiers to strike and soldiers haven't had their pensions downgraded in as long as I've been in.
So what kind of pension does a teacher who's worked until they're 65 get and how much of their pay goes into their pension pot? What is the new deal they're not happy about?

Hi and welcome to ARRSE. Nice first post. Did you miss the 'Introduce Yourself' forum? Ah well. An easy mistake to make.
So, just how many days paid holidays to we, the honest, non-whining tax payers subsidise you for? For teaching small children from 09.30 till, ooh, about 15.20? For £35k a year?
Tough gig. Heres a Prez.

Yes i'd believe the Telegraph. I'm sure the information gained through the freedom of information act is in the thread i'll post.

Come on, they have 'lesson prep' to carry out. I mean, how hard is it to say, 'open your books at page 45 and start reading'... Try prepping for a two day exercise where you will be teaching 10 different lessons and partaking in several exercises... now we're talking 'lesson prep'.

I'm still on AFPS75, as is anyone else who wanted to stay on the old one. Our first real downgrade (those who are still in then) will be when the new compulsory pension scheme comes in in 2015-ish.
It'll be interesting to see how many of the 'machine gun the striking wankers' brigade suddenly change their tune on public sector pensions when they realise that includes their own...
