Anyway - just to show how consistent politicians are over defence matters-
"It is regrettable what has happened to Scotland's regiments. It should not have. I think the government has made a terrible mistake, but four years down the road it may be impossible to disinter the regiments from what is being proposed" - David Cameron. November 2005 campaigning in Perth.

If, on the off chance, we have to rapidly expand the infantry in a time of national crises of WWII proportions would any of the amalgamated regiments become unamalgamated and revert to their former glory. Or would we see battalions named 37 Rifles, 6 RRS or 26 PWRR hitting the headlines?

[QUOTE=hackle;4406027]I hadn't noticed! ;)
And the naming system for the Royal Regiment of Scotland's battalions is exactly the same as for other infantry regiments in the British Army, just as it should be.[/
Just read to the end and realised you recanted (slightly). The point is still that any Bn/ Regt with its old name in or before brackets has missed the opportunity to move forwards and still has its fingernails clutching the last vestiges of yesterday's army.Last edited by rabid spaniel; 17-05-2012 at 23:26.
