The manning figures for battalions were the subject of a recent PQ, the answer can be seen here

Because I'm a boring sod I worked out a few %s. There are 8 bns at less than 90% manning v establishment - 4 SCOTS (76), 1 YORKS (77), 2 MERCIAN (83), 5 SCOTS (84), 2 PARA (84), 3 MERCIAN (84), 2 SCOTS (85), 1 CG (86).
1 and 3 SCOTS are at 97%, the SCOTS average is 88%, the average for the rest of the infantry is 94%
Now, brighter folk than I can probably explain why these units are particularly under-strength (does it reflect their position in the HERRICK cycle?), I know you can lie with stats, and maths isn't my strong point, but it does make the SCOTS (among others) look vulnerable.

I would imagine my battalion (4 SCOTS) is at a period of low manning at the moment as we're 8months post HERRICK & ITC is currently feeding new recruits to the other RRS battalions that are soon to deploy, plus *a lot* of people are usually signed off after a big tour.
