To eat well in England one must have breakfast three times a day

London: its "buzz" and "vibrancy"... can be codewords for drugs, late-night noise and multi-culturalism run (literally) riot.

What he was saying in his campaign made a lot of sense (you need to grow the economy and not just keep on cutting spending).

Whether he can actually deliver is, obviously, another question entirely.

He has been deliberately vague about where the money will come from for all the planned expenditure ....

My 18 year old son told he me was waiting outside the polling station for 30 mins to vote this morning, and was first in the queue. I thought that was very commendable at his age getting up so early to vote. He then admitted he was on his way home from the night before ...
I'll sail this ship alone ...

This win means most French troops should be gone from Afghanistan by the end of this year. It won't change much in terms of effects in their AOR since TF Lafayette had drastically cut its Ops in RC-E since July 2011, the overarching political directive being "no more casualties".

Hardware will take longer though; current estimate run at least until the end of 2013.

Except that he did not say where the money was going to come from.....

Expect a lot of promises, most of which will be either broken or re-spun within 6 months. The simple fact is some bright people in the background will be telling him what the current market and economic situation will allow.

Still leaves plenty of scope to balls things up for France in the short term, but the French market analysis last week was not overly concerned about any medium to long term impact.

I'd loved to have been a fly on the wall when Sarkozy rang Frau Merkel to tell her.

    Clearly, he is a politician...

It does make sense that improving your income as well as cutting your bills is preferable to cutting your bills alone though. As I said, whether he can actually deliver is clearly another question entirely.

At least he acknowledged his social responsibility! Good drills!

He will only be able to deliver what he is allowed to by external forces.

Promising to address growth when the issue is already well advanced was not a hard call to make.....
