    You should become a politician.
Dry books of tactics are beneath the notice of a man of genius, and it is a known fact that every British officer is inspired with a perfect knowledge of his duty, the moment he gets his commission; and if it were not, it would be sufficiently acquired in conversaziones at the main-guard or the grand sutler's.

I think the term pot and kettle springs to mind since your level of debate centres around slagging people of. I am sorry that some of my points are a little over your head, as I have already suggested try reading Steven Bruce's 'red hand' and his analysis of pro state and anti state terroists . In a nut shell , On the republican side those that want to defend their community ended up joining republican paramiltarys, so they got the cream of thier community. On the loyalist side those that wanted to defend thier community's ended in main joining the forces of the state they are loyal to ie the RUC, UDR, RIR, Army etc while those that couldn't cut it ended up in the loyalist paramiltarys. In the event of a united Ireland these roles will be reversed.

Tim Collins makes more or less the same point in Rules Of Engagement, he doesn't draw the same conclusion as you do though.

BTW Can you shed any light as to what the aims of "loyalist" paramilitaries would be within an all Ireland context?

Considering if there was a united Ireland the vast majority of ulster unionist community will become supporters of an independent ulster over nigjt it will no doubt centre around that. Things will probably start of as wide scale civil unrest and escalate from there

    An independent Ulster?

    Christ.

Based on not quite all of a minority wanting it... You really don't understand the fundamentals of this democracy business do you?

I understand quite well thank you but since I am not the one on charge, it doesn't matter what I think. Moreover if you think 50%+1 or anything even close to that will be a peaceful transition then you are deluding yourself

    I don't think it'll be peaceful.

But I know what the ultimate result of violence will be and I don't think you'll like it.

I see no reason why it shouldn't go down peacefully. The worst-case scenario is that the Orangemen kick off, some of the PSNI side with them and get dumped, their places are taken by Catholics from the Six Counties or the Republic, and together with the Irish Defence Force they (the Orangemen) get malletted so badly that they won't dare to open their ****in' gobs for the next two hundred years. It'll be all over in three weeks and then we'll finally have a United Ireland.

Good thinking. I find the older I get the less tolerant I'm becoming, especially hearing the same old story. Maybe being a bishop is more stressful than I thought it was going to be.

I wouldn't exactly describe that as peaceful. But hey-ho.
