Once again I find myself pointing out a simple fact; Abu Quatada, ie, Abu Qatada al-Filistini, is the conventional name of Omar Mahmoud Othman a Palestinian Muslim of Jordanian citizenship. So Abu Quatada isn't even his proper name. It just means "Qatada and Filistini's daddy". So because of this simple and glaring oversight he can probably turn around at the last minute and claim some sort of technical invalidity that allows him to get away with it. Remember, if the so-called name starts with Abu anything, then that isn't their name...

More likely that the lawyers on both sides are in cahoots - they're the ultimate winners in this farce, with the losers being the feckin' taxpayers. If this shouldn't serve to change the legal position on residence in this country, then absolutely nothing will.

Interesting fact: over the last 600 years or so, a number of governments in London have made determined attempts to overturn the power of the lawyers - they have failed every time.

In all likelihood, the charge sheet will read "Omar Mahmoud Othman, also known as Abu Quatada al-Filistini......" so all bases covered.

In the Daily Telegraph Abu Qatada to remain in Britain for at least five months to fight new appeal. Looks like he won't miss the beach volleyball at the Olympics afterall.

BBC: "Radical preacher Abu Qatada lost his latest bid for freedom today". Tuesday.

"Two judges at the High Court in London rejected his challenge against his continuing detention by Home Secretary Theresa May.

The Special Immigration Appeals Commission (Siac) ruled two months ago that the detention of Qatada, who is fighting deportation to Jordan, was lawful.

Leaving him free during heightened security for the 2012 Olympics would be "exceptionally problematic", a judge said.

Lord Justice Hughes, sitting with Mr Justice Silber, said the court was "quite satisfied" that Qatada's judicial review application should be dismissed". BBC. Abu Qatada loses freedom bid - Crime - UK - The Independent

Well he won't be going to the Beach Volley ball but we are far from the fat lady singing.

In DT Abu Qatada loses latest bid for freedom
    ...
He pointed out that deportation was not "imminent", adding: "That is to say it cannot be said that deportation can reasonably be expected to take place within a matter of months."

Mr Fitzgerald told the court: "There comes a point where detention is just too long, and this is the longest period of administrative detention, so far as we know, in modern English history."

He said: "It cannot be right, when we are already at seven years - and when there is an inevitable likelihood this is going to go on for at least another year - for there to be continued detention of Mr Othman."
...Repeated failed attempts by UK governments over the last 10 years to deport the radical cleric have cost nearly £1 million in legal fees, Government figures show.
My bold, and speaking of fat ladies, where is Theresa May's resignation?
