    While I agree with your conclusion that support for the "long war" is waning in the US, I do not think the most recent incident has much to do with that. From my perspective as an amateur social observer, Americans are in the main quite oblivious to the fact we are even fighting a "war" and were it not an election year, even less would be said of it. We are too concerned about who is on "Dancing with the Stars" and other momentous things. In post-modern America, the average attention span is measured in nano-seconds especially if it is anything unpleasant.
