He always insisted that every paper, every one of the nationals and the Standard as well, were up to exactly the same thing. Juicy details of murders, inside stories on investigations were the norm.
The worst thing is they think it is legitimate to corrupt public officials in order to get at "the truth" - basically they splash money around as a substitute for proper journalism, which is clearly too much like hard work for the Murdochs of this world.

I'd say its more about business and making money. You might run a story on which is very accurate with the official facts given but few people will be interested, spice it up with a bit of insider knowlege and suddenly people are buying your rag.

Fears over future of Sun newspaper after more arrests - Telegraph

"A 39-year-old woman employed by the Ministry of Defence was arrested at her home in Wiltshire and is being questioned at a police station in the county, along with a 36-year-old member of the Armed forces who was also held at an address in Wiltshire."

Can anyone explain why it is that the names of the journos arrested quickly enter the public domain, but those of police officers, etc don't?

The Sun is no worse than many others.

The Mirror appeals to a similar audience only with a more left-wing (and scouse) orientation. Piers Moron hardly covered himself in glory when he gave evidence to the Leveson Inquiry and it beggars belief that he wasn't doing anything less odious than the NoW.

The Mail is also being lampooned by numerous celebs with an axe to grind and does anyone think the Guardian's motives and behaviour with, for example, the wickileaks affair are any more honest and transparent than others.

No-one really believes the UK press are totally un-biased do they? I am just surprised that anyone thinks their conduct is going to be beyond reproach.

Because we all know every journo is guilty of something, as for the rest, including police and army officers, all remain innocent until proved guilty.

I know it's not original, but it is effective.
As long as he takes the rest of his clan with him, especially one P. Morgan!!

We should remember the tremendous contribution of the Queen Mother to the war effort:
As the BBC pointed out, she 'bravely remained in London beside her husband' during the war.
This contrasts sharply with the actions of my grandfather who, on the declaration of war immediately left his wife and children and pissed off, first to France, then North Africa, Italy, France (again) and finally Germany.
The shame will always be with us.
