Soldiers are public servants paid fromcontributions taken from the public's wages, is it entirely unreasonable for them to be expected to serve the public in ways which doesn't include slotting baddies in the desert?
Yes, Cleaning your own area certainly is a normal armed forces related activity. Not cleaning other people's areas.

Bear in mind that one of the issues here is mobilising personnel from the reserves for these Olympic tasks.

*Was at one of the Olympic briefings on Tuesday and they were pushing the Mil side of things saying that the 'Eyes of the World will be on us, blah, blah, blah' and that it's perfectly reasonaable for HM Forces/Police etc to be involved re security.........seems a fair one to me tbh. Don't forget there are about 8 or so venues throughout England/Scotland and Wales.

TACs are being lined up for accom....so do your stag, free scoff and brews, then get the feck to the nearest boozer, crash out at the TAC....Piece of pi55 or what?

That put's things in perspective a little, your right, sounds better in uniform.

How many Civil Servants, Fire crew, Ambulance crew, Dole-Dossers etc (all paid from contributions taken from the public's wages) will also be drafted to do car parking/litter-sweeping and so on?

I think we all know the answer to that don't we?
Why do you think offering my opinion is after a bite or being flippant?

There's an easy answer to this conundrum. Get the regulars to do the 'security' bit along with the drinking, fucking and eating pussy and get the STABs to pick up chip wrappers, cans and dogshit. Job jobbed.

Well I was talking about regulars to be honest.

But for TA if they are compulsery mobilised for civil defence, that's in the TA job spec. (althought compulsery mobilising will probably never happen).

I'm not sure what's being proposed here, but if you're talking about soldiers putting hi-vis vests on and emptying people's wheelie bins or driving street sweepers, taking down decorations and signs, then no it's not in the job, that's up to the local authorites.

If your talking about being asked to pick up the occasional fag butt and paper cup in the area they're operating in and that they could have thrown down, then what's the problem? I'm sure we've all done excercises on public ground where we go round with a gash bag and pick up the litter, whether we've thrown it down or not.

One example is miles away from the other.

If you're a Reg then turn up, do whatever the fuck you're told and go home again.

If you're TA and you don't fancy it then do what they always do when they don't fancy it and just text your Tp Sgt on the Friday afternoon and tell him you can't make it because it's raining and the wife wants to go shopping.

    Job jobbed.

Bottom line, as has been stated by many who know the score, is that you WILL do what the feck your told to do.....just like the show jumping/Olympia Events/ fecking grouse shooting, beater b*ll*xs/untold other shite, that we've all been dicked for over the years..and you WILL do it to the best of your fecking abilities..as always.

Feck me, it's better than playing hop scotch with IE fecking D's...was a time when we used to love the chance of being near/eyed up by the chicks and gen public.

Exactly, in the shit jobs stakes, this is a fukin world above burning shit in a fob or being valon man for six months.

Scoff laid on, beer tokens in hand, impressionable young tourists knocking about. You may be asked to stag on a carpark or pick up the odd fag end, not the fukin apocalypse is it?
