Once again we see the triumph of bureaucratic process over common sense and decency.
If your soldiers aren't coming off most weekends telling those who weren't there "shit mate, you dipped out" then time to cull your training team with prejudice.

Thanks Jim, I always get that there are 3 sides to a story and it's good to get at reply that takes the sensationalism out of the equation, fortunately living in France I have less access to different faces of the UK media and have to admit to using the BBC for my main source of information.
Oh and theironduke if you still have French ladies dressed in culottes (spelt correctly) and knee boots in your wank bank I guess you need to update it a little.

Yes, a non- story. You stop being paid the day you die. Although, having said that, I am surprised that the MOD have bothered to reclaim the over-payment.
The real story is why are the media (not just the BBC) being so crass as to exploit a family's grief in order to get a small story? That is the disgusting part as far as I am concerned. The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.

"Not outraged, just not happy with your crass attitude,,,pay them to the second eh,,,is Time and Motion Study on your CV?...... "
You're quite right. I am a bad bad person. I am very sorry. Please forgive my heinous crime of trying to explain the truth that someone wasnt docked pay in the manner the media want to make it out to be - clearly that is highly crass in the extreme.
What shall I do to make amends - would you like my posts to be tinged in black, with maybe a RIP Our FALLEN SOLJAHS as my sig? How about I spend my days campaigning against starbucks for refusing to send coffee to our brave boys in Iraq? I know, I'll prove it to you that I'm not crass - I'll start a campaign for the national defence medal to be awarded to everyone in the UK who has been succesfully potty trained. Not happy - oh all right then, I'll even try and stick a GPS on that bus load of nurses to see if we can get an accurate fix on their location.Looking for more defence writing? Why not try some other defence related sites.

Jim provided the facts of the situation. Where's the problem with that? It's not like he's gone banging on the family's door to tell them to stop moaning, he's provided a discussion point in what, last time I checked, is a discussion forum.
If, however, you don't like your facts getting in the way of a good rant, might I suggest the Guardian's "Comment Is Free" sections?
