but they have had 10 years to sort it out, iraq should have given them a clue what was required.
mind you they could have given up on merlin when it didnt do what they said it could like fly on two engineswhat the world needs is an enema, make that two - just to give it a sense of purpose.

a senior Chinese officer has said, “all the great nations in the world own aircraft carriers – they are symbols of a great nation”. That’s why China has just commissioned its first. By the same token, to opt for a “carrier gap” of some years is to abandon your responsibilities.

The even better clusterfuck with the Merlin was the requirement that it should be able to fit a Land Rover up the ramp, and be held snug inside the body so that in the event of a crash (crashing is the Merlin's speciality point, with it's collapsing plastic shell and fancy crash-proof seats and all that stuff) it didn't land on top of whoever was sat near it.
Helicopter designer said 'no problem' and measured it to fit perfectly, with a GS Land Rover.
So, of course, when they drove the first Wolf into it, with the Wolf's higher roof, it crashed into the back of the helicopter.
Nobody in the multi-million pound project ever considered that they might want to drive a Wolf into it not a GS.http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2012/...08_308x385.jpg

Thought the navy were getting the RAF merlons to replace sea king and the RAF would get more chinook and upgraded pumas.Pretty sure there was something on DII about it.
