Is the mechanism there, if it was deemed necessary, for the Met to cancel their mobilisation leave and for them to return to London? What would the army say?
I know two plods wont make a difference, just wondering if it could happen as they are calling the Speshuls in!
I would (personally) accept that they were 'Operational' but for 'Herrick'; they should not be withdrawn from their current tasking in order to support this. IMHO what is happening here is not a lack of power and force; it is a lack of moral and political courage in order to use that force.

Lots of people seem to be all for calling the army in - when did a unit do riot training as part of its day to day skills? I know a TA unit bound for Tosca touched on it, and it was part of the training package for TA back in 2005-2007. But as the military focus has been on warfighting in Afg, would the army need a period of build up trainign before it could deploy?

Again, this is another hypothetical - i believe deploying the army would be a dangerous precedent and would diminish the rule of law and credibility of democracy so on, and so forth bla bla bla.
Hmmm; Law and Order is an issue here is it?................damn is that a wah alarm?

exactly, the cops arent really getting stuck into the rioters are they're mainly just thieves/looters and not really rioting at all. if the cops cant close with them because they keep running off then just start shooting them with baton rounds as they leg it.

[QUOTE=KGB_resident;3889505]Russian OMON (special police unints) should be invited. Few lessons to the rioters and that's all.

Who are these guys? Does anyone know?....They don't look Russian and the car in the background is a Ford Crown Victoria, standard USA cop car. Also the uniforms are very american looking, along with the shoulder patches, which are stereotypical North American police force (Used to live in Canada so have seen both at first hand)
(I know the photo came from a Russian site, but the officers in the first photo appear to be American)
