My irony gland is beginning to twitch... However and without any touch of irony, I do hope that our Armed Forces do get a good deal from the Covenant.

Hi all,
I am afraid that you are all missing the point. This is nothing more than a PR stunt to ward off the civilian populous. Over the last 12 moths the very foundations of military terms of service and conditions have been eaten at, the government/MOD know this. Unfortunately the senior element of the Armed Forces is now run by would be politicians, all with one eye on retirement/redundancy. So they believe this is a good idea but they also know its at little costs as it only effects a small minority of military personnel.
All thats mentioned in the paper is already been done within the MOD or by some of other organisation.
They need to get back to basics, stop wafferling, grow some moral fiber and strat to stand up for the rights of the squaddies. If only we have the Union that represented BA would they let whats been done to us happen, I think not.

Oh do fuck off with all your union bullshit, are you seriously suggesting a union/the unions would do anything about the military covenant? Lets face facts, the military covenant was never honoured while your friends in the Labour party were in power, and I don't remember hearing any union bosses on their fat-cat salaries shouting for improvements for members of the armed forces.

They're pulling out all the stops with 'The Covenant'
As well as free bus passes for seriously wounded veterans, including amputees and those with head injuries, £3 million will be spent on providing extra teachers or tutors for schools with a large number of children from service families.
Men who have suffered genital injuries will be given three free courses of IVF treatment funded by the NHS; troops on operations will get a 50 per cent rebate on council tax, up from a 25 per cent rebate; and a “Veterans’ Card” will be given to all serving and former military personnel giving a discount at a variety of shops and sports events.
Councils will also be ordered to prioritise soldiers, sailors and airmen for housing.
Bus passes for injured troops as covenant becomes law - Telegraph
Free bus passes for the seriously injured, like pensioners get. £3million on schools whose numbers are swollen by service kids, hhhmm they'd need the extra staff anyway. Genitally injured get 3 IVF treatments, how many are there and that cost isn't huge, some NHS trusts already provide free IVF it's a postcode lottery. Poll tax rebate up 25%, costs the government nothing as its councils money. Veterans cards for discounts at shops, another freebie to the government as retailers bear the cost and some do already. Councils to give priority to Forces, hhhmmm where in the priority list will that be, number 1 or below the pregnant teenagers and the asylum seekers.
Do I sound a little cynical?

it will end up like the " war pensioners will get priority treatment in NHS hospitals" A right load of old shit that was. I snapped a metal rod in my back that was inserted shortly after breaking me back. I was in fooking agony and even thou I told em I was a WP and entitled to express service I had to wait two folking years, the lying bastids!

Politician Test
Here's a simple bullshit detector for this Covenant idea.
1. Who's paying? As in who's going to the back of the queue or won't be getting any money? (Foreign Aid? Believe it when I see it)
2 What percentage GDP will the MoD get?
I wish journos would ask a few what, when, why, who and how questions.

My Newsletter attempts to define the Covenant. I fear that it will be pushed towards local authorities and organisations such as the RBL and away from Government promises.
Check out my Newsletter and sign-up if you haven't done so already.

What did anyone expect?
We get the square root of bollocks.
Expect nothing, get nothing saves on tears and disappointment.
Can't wait to get my free big Mac on the veterans card. And on the 5th day God created the Royal Engineers and at this point he rested because he had created perfection.

I might not agree with your point of view, but I will die to defend your right to have that point of view and the freedom to express it.
