Sensible answer - I'm a civilian now, so the Army would be really, really desperate to use a fat, shiney-arse like me for crowd control. But if they did then only in a life threatening situation, regardless of ROE, if I had to, to preserve the life of me, a buddy, little old lady getting dry-bum-fucked (probably by some Paras) etc. I wouldnt do it just because I was ordered, illegal orders can be (and have been)ignored.
My NAAFI answer would include something about Norfolk.
RatcatcherBeing in the army is like being in the Boy Scouts, except that the Boy Scouts have adult supervision.

If I were you I would be very careful before deciding to open fire on British Civpop without a very, very, good and legal reason and then only with a top notch back-up plan of what to do next.
There are 65million of us and if you start casually bullying and slotting people round our way we'll have you swinging from the fucking lampposts within an hour.
You are not the only ones with guns and GBFO tracked vehicles, and you are definitely not the only ones with military training.
Just thought I'd mention it to some posters.Last edited by Micawber; 08-09-2010 at 15:01.

Interesting point, well made. Didn't see very much of that kind of stiff resistance while Broon and B'liar were busy criminalising everyone and snooping on us all - so I'm a little skeptical (still waiting to see some of that legislation undone by the Condems, BTW)

You are right there, Stonker, but slow to anger and all that.
However they were pushing a lot further in that direction than I bet they ever realised.'Where are the Snowdens of yesteryear'?

When I was in our version of the TA one of our main task was "Military assistance to civilian authorities" and "National Security Operations". This meant in practice that we were to beef up the Police or provide security during antiterrorism operations.
This sounds so Gung Ho but was in fact bound by VERY stringent ROE's and instructions. From section commander up we were trained as much in shooting as in deciding when we could open fire. You probably did the same before going to NI.
We only had one warning order. That was when in Utrecht the police were overrun when trying to keep some Morrocans from lynchin Indonesians. We were going to enforce a curfew. It was in the end decided that soldiers patroling the streets keeping Muslims from breaking the law would look bad. Especially after the murders on Vincent van Gogh and Pim Fortuyn and the threats against Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Geert Wilders it was thought appeasement was STILL the best option. Sorry, did my personal opinion shine through there?
Cheers,
Kaye

We will find out soon when the condems decide that public sectors strikers are making them look like the unpopular minority government they are.
