I notice nearly 10% have voted no. I can only assume that they are strawberries who haven't got a scooby.

Can we start on wiping out sink estates, then Friday and Saturday night drunken mobs and anti British Islamic riots?.
Socialism is the junior brother of communism and should be eliminated in Britain forthwith.

    Was it a lawful order?
I was a good runner in the mob. I alway's liked to think I could get out of trouble quicker than what I got into it!

Now wouldnt that be fun... reckon I will dream well tonight, with a big smile on my face.....

The only problem would be, after it, the government would swear there was no such order/policy and it must have been the squaddies that did it of their backs,, and then they would punish us all to take the blame from them...

Actually, the question is better reversed and rephrased - "If you had lawful authority to shoot a person, would you refuse to do so simply because you knew they were British?"

As I see it, it comes down to authority to open fire, from self-defence through to various ROE. I would have no problem shooting a member of the public, British or otherwise, who was about to kill me, my friends or random other people. And that is entirely lawful.

On being ordered to open fire on a completely/mostly law abiding crowd - anyway, people for whom there was neither common law authority or ROE to open fire - I wouldn't. And, if there was ROE and I thought it was wrong, I wouldn't either - but then I have age and rank on my side ...

there is legislation in place where contained civilians can be fired upon by the police and us, its the 28 days later scenario and it was brought in by Blair...

That even included though of us within a certain perimeter... there is even a RAF camp where if you step over a line you were shot dead its a mad world

You're only saying that because you've never been to Springburn in the east end of Glasgow. There are people there with rickets. Shooting them would be classed as a mercy killing.
Remember, a dog is for life. A turkey's just for Christmas though, and perhaps Boxing Day if it's a big one.

Some characters I knew during my career would of happily stuck a long burst through their own mothers if it had led to them proffing somehow, so I doubt too many Soldiers would have a drama with dropping civies.

In fact, some Regiments proved to be quite good at brassing up civies during their tours of NI and that was without even beig ordered to!

A little context. PC Keith Blakelock had his head hacked off in the Broadwater Farm riots in the 80s. If the rozzers had asked for mil help in putting the riot down, I see no issue whatsoever in introducing these thugs to Mr GPMG. Tough fucking shit if the streets run with rivers of the rioters' blood. It's a bit like leathering the crap out of your teenage kids when they decide they're big enough to gob off. Only need to do it once. It won't happen again.
