Well, that comes across as pretty categoric in terms of denial. Then again, just to keep the thread going, so does 'we acted completely within the rules'.

Yes, categorical denial. Might as well shut down here. When was the last time an elected representative of the British populace made a false denial about sexual or financial impropriety after all? Or was found to have exercised poor judgement? Nope, our work here is done, come on Tonto, let's get a brew.

It's comes across to me as a politician's answer. Designed to give the impression of having said one thing by saying something slightly less catergorical.
No-one would deny that there are plenty of heterosexual virgins about (most of them on this site) so why not a few of the other persuasion too?
Ultimately I dont care whether he's poof or not. He's a Tory and that is far more offensive.Last edited by Roger_The_Cat; 02-09-2010 at 10:25.

Great more political scandal and another British foreign diplomat with an iffy reputation. As if Milliband wasnt enough. You'd think we would deserve a break. We get another international diplomat who when he shows up gets sniggers from the macho boys and winks from the other light footed boys. (Sigh) Why cant we just have a normal bloke?
But.... in his defence....I like to see the good in people.....Was he not sharing the room to cut down on costs - their campaign was a bit of a 'war campaign' wasn't it? Plus the likelyhood of the possible coallition result was foreseen and the likely-hood of a second ellection campaign in late 2010/2011 so surely resources were managed very carefully. Not making excuses but wasnt this more like the reason?
Surely?
Possibly?
PLEASE?

Come my boys, my brave boys, let us pray heartily and fight heartily. I will run the same hazards and fortunes with you. Remember the cause is for God, and for the defence of yourselves, your wives, your children. Come, my honest brave boys, pray heartily and fight heartily, and God will bless us.

Is it me or has Jim30's post disappeared? You know the one that included the words 'apparently' and 'allegedly' is it smeared WH with insider info from a friend of a friend of a cab driver who's cousin saw WH across a crowded supermarket fourteen years ago. Or maybe it was Jimmy somerville? What the hell, unsubstantiated gossip never hurt anyone, did it?

Clinton was a fool. He could have said 'I did not engage in sex with that woman' might have been technically true (assuming it was only a BJ). Instead he said 'I did not engage in a sex act with that woman' which left him nowhere to go once caught out.
WH's use of the word 'relationship' is catagorical. In anyone's book it means either long term loveness, or a ten minute shag. In fact, I can't think of any word he could have used that would be any more definitive.

Clinton was the victim of the American development of the English language, which has seen simple concepts like "now" become "at this moment in time" and the logical and highly plausible denial "I did not shag that munter" morph into his now familiar form of words.
WH could have been more categorical and cut to the chase as far as the tabloids are concerned by saying "We didn't bum or nosh off each other." Though I suppose that would still beg the question whether they indulgeed in some mutual masturbation or light frottage? Politics is so much more complicated than it looks at first sight.

Having give the matter careful consideration, I have decided I don't really give a fuck who's drawers Hague rummages in.
It's an internet rumour, Hague has vigorously denied it all, some poor sod has lost his job.
Hague is no fool, he knows that if his categoric denial is proven untrue then his political career is over.
He would have admitted it if it was true. His career would survive being caught out as a puff, it wouldn't survive being caught out on a lie on that scale.
