Jack Straw summoned to US senate hearing over Lockerbie

Jack Straw requested to attend influential US senate hearing that is investigating links between oil giant BP and the release of Lockerbie bomber Abdulbaset Ali al-Megrahi.

Mr Straw, the former Labour Party Justice Minister, has been asked to appear at the hearing in Washington on July 29.

He was an arrogant c*nt when he was questioned by the Iraq committee,
The Septics won't take kindly to a similar performance.
But it gets more interesting as Cameron has asked the ever nulabor faithful Gus O'Donnell to clear
other paper papers in time for the hearing. A little late night homework is in order.

    from the DT

BP's MI6 adviser called before Senate over Libya deal

"The Prime Minister has asked Sir Gus O'Donnell, the Cabinet Secretary, to study and prepare for release any relevant British Government papers. These are thought to include the minutes of two phone conversations between Sir Mark and Mr Straw in autumn 2007. There may also be documents detailing discussions between the British Government and Scottish Executive over the case.

Downing Street aides are not sure whether Sir Gus will complete his review of the documents before next week's senate hearing.

The hearing is likely to disclose the very close relationship between BP and senior Labour figures, including Tony Blair and Lord Mandelson.

If the documents – or other information – comes to light which suggests that the oil firm had any role in the eventual release of al-Megrahi, Mr Cameron is likely to order a full British inquiry into the scandal."

What a shame it would be if anything came out that soured the rosy view the Americans take of Tony Blair, former First Poodle. Think of all those millions in speaking fees that he might lose.

Summoned by a Foreign power? As much as I hate the odious little Toad as a British citizen he should tell them to F**k off. Then the next time he's on holiday, he can be Kidnapped off a beach and benefit from one of those free "Extraordinary rendition" flights his goverment knew nothing about.

Perhaps he should study how "Gorgeous George" Galloway dealt with the Yankee Inquisition.

Galloway was there to proselytise his political point/agenda.
Straw, one would have thought, will want to keep his dignity intact and therefore appear as a credible witness.
Obfuscation and evasion will not go down well and will leave him with little credibility in the eyes of the Septics..

As much as I think straw is a prat, bowing to American political posturing ala mcarthy is vomit inducing, if they don't like our foreign policy then they can carry on their imperialist policies without us, they clearly don't think we help so crack on.

I love Americans but their administrations are fcukwits without exception. Obama is the biggest let down since Carter, probably more so.

How the hell can America summon Jack straw?

If he had any balls he'd tell them to shove their hearing up their arses.

The senate know the BP shareholder split as well as anyone else. This is just some ritual public arse-shafting to save some American political foreskin. Ho ho ho! Give it to him hot ja?

Nothing to see here . . . move along.

Asked, not Summoned, not Supoenaed, Asked, so you idiots(you know who you are) can unwad your Panties. the only News outlets using Summoned are British tabloids.

Mr. Straw should (if he decides to appear) tell the congress it's none of their damn business what the UK Gov & BP did or did not do outside the confines of the USA.

This is true, but it is equally true that there are many within the US Senate (on both sides) whose sense of entitlement seems to know no bounds. Even if it is just another Congressional fishing trip, such "requests" are delivered in a rather Luca Brasi fashion. With that in mind, we are prepare to make the following offer:

You can have Straw and Blair, provided you keep them. In Gitmo.

Goldbricker, I'm not trying to look for an argument here, but you know as much as I do that the senate think they can command the world, this is what pisses off the rest of us and alienates the US, the world does not answer to the shallow senate of the United States.

People like me are big fans, and I'm in a minority, but this arrogant shit pisses even people like me off.

I'm fully in agreement, The Senate Dems are looking for something to look like they are doing their job and deflect from the pissed off electorate before Novembers elections....

And what better target than BP who've been their whipping boy for the last 3 months.

US Senate Foreign Relations Majority Members
    John Kerry (D-MA)
    Chris Dodd (D-CT)
    Russ Feingold (D-WI)
    Barbara Boxer (D-CA)
    James Webb (D-VA)
    Robert Menendez (D-NJ)
    Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH)
    Ted Kaufman (D-DE)
    Ben Cardin (D-MD)
    Robert Casey Jr. (D-PA)
    Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY)

Add to that you can bet the farm Charles "Chuck the Schmuck" Schumer (D-NY) will get his face on camera grilling BP's CEO.

Having watched hours upon hours of these sentate committes and congressional hearings Straw and Blair as oxbridge lawyers will most likely completely fucking destroy them. Galloway essentially raped 4 of them on capital hill and walked away laughing.

Well they've already had their answer from the Scottish Government.

BBC News - MacAskill will not attend US hearing on bomber release
It is better to remain silent and appear stupid than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt

Yeah they'll be fucking destroyed by Blair's power-talk. And that's before he even starts the hand-jiving . . . noooooooo you don't want to go there!

They have lawyer-politicians over there too you know. If anyone - on either side of the exchange - manages to do a Gorgeous George I will applaud. But I fear that it would be too good to be true.
