Am I the only one who finds the US legislature expressing concern at the supposed influence of an oil company on government policy just a teensy weensy wee bit hypocritical ???

It's ok, stupid people need to be listened to as well.

Tis a bit isn't it? Its just another dog and pony show as the cousins would say . . . Blair won't bother to go because he of course, is one of the 'briefed ones'. Jack Straw, as one of the great un-briefed will be sent along to talk to those other un-briefed so that the gullible masses can oooh! and aaahh! at democracy in action.

JHeard on the news last night Straw would check with the one eyed cunt before going wonder what that's all about? Please don't tell me he still thinks he has influence and a world statesman. Anyway shouldn't Straw be checking with the current elected PM!

He missed a chance to have fun with them
Senator: "Why did you let him go?"
MacAskill: "Cos he' got terminal cancer"
S: "Why is he still alive?"
M: "How the fcuk do I know I am not a cancer specialist"
S: "Did BP have influence over the release?"
M: "No, if you want to know anything about BP get that smugfaced twat Blair in here"
S: "Have you released all the papers regarding the release?"
M: "Yes, apart from the ones that the UK and your government won't let us release and probably never will"
M: "Thanks for the trip I am now going to see the sites"

Since no one has manged to get a straight answer out of Straw in 30 years in UK politics, I don't expect a US Senate committee to get very far!

Blair will, I am sure, be requesting his agent ensure adequate fees are paid upon his 'appearance'.

What a complete and utter cnut the man Straw is. His attendance - presumably they are paying his eccies or he wouldn't go - adds nothing to the US Senate's understanding. An understanding which seems particularly slow in any case. However Jack "I'm alright" Straw won't mind however long it takes for him to deliver nugatory info. He'll get free advertising on the political speaker circuit and might even be able to get in some party political digs at either the Edinburgh or Westminster governments.
Frankly Kenny and Ooor Eck have done exactly all that an (almost) sovereign government can do, when "politely" asked to assist another sovereign government. They have explained why al Megrahi was released in accordance with the Scottish penal system compassionate release scheme, indicated that not one, not two, not three but four oncologists didn't fancy Al Megrahi to open his Christmas presents and stated that BP did not lobby the Scottish government for this outcome.
So for Senator Butt Fouker from Shitkique, Louisiana to hector them on any of these points is a waste of Scottish and US tax-payers money. Frankly if after due process Ooor Eck had handed al Megrahi the freedom of Cumbernauld, a bottle of Vat 69 and a five day pass on the West Highland line...well hard lines. If the septics were so keen to deal summarily with Libya, then they should have got their pathetic F111 raid right or snaffled al Megrahi for a spot of extraordinary rendition. They are just grandstanding for domestic political capital and using this to conflate the Mexican Gulf issue.
Frankly they can fcuk right off. Two faced, lard-arsed, canoe beer drinking, impenetrable electoral system owning twunts.

Oh and if Jack Straw feels he has something new to add to the world's understanding of the prisoner exchange agreement between the UK and Libya, one wonders why he hasn't felt the need to speak out in advance?
Or has his loyalty to Tone finally dissolved? Or does he have a memoir awaiting publication? which given the way he chucked his weight around on political meoirs whilst in office would be ironic...
